Came in here for dinner and had never been before. We sat down and a waitress just walked up to our table and took our drink order. My husband asked for a menu and the waitress said it's on the wall and pointed to 2 places on the wall the menu was displayed. We told the waitress we had never been there, and she walked off. When she came back my husband ordered his food, and she told him the sides so fast and asked if those were ok. We asked her to repeat them and again she did it so fast you could barely understand what she said. He doesn't eat half of what she listed so we requested something different, and she said no that is what it comes with. Then why ask if that is ok?! I then told her we were just going to share because I was not very hungry and only wanted to try their pie. She then told me there would be an upcharge for us to share a meal. I told her I wasn't going to eat anything but the sides he wouldn't, and she said it didn't matter it was family style, which was the first mention of this, and the sides are for 2 people. I told her then I would just order pie and not eat anything else, and she said there would still be an upcharge because it was family style only. We ended up getting up and leaving because the waitress was rude and the fact that they wanted to charge extra for food that would have just been thrown away blows my mind. I have no clue about the quality of food, but the service was horrible, and the place was very dated, and pies just left on a counter not covered was not very appealing. Sky high pie only for the amount of meringue on them but that is it. Very...

Once I heard about their pie, I knew I'd have to try it. I've been there a few times since then.

I've had lunch specials and dinner specials there. The lunch is served with two sides like a full plate. The dinner is "family style" and they bring all the sides on shared plates and the entrees on your own plate. I like family style so that is good for me.

I absolutely LOVE their fried chicken! It has THE BEST breading that I've had and is very juicy. Pieces are a good size and always fried perfectly. Their mashed potatoes are homemade and have good flavor as does the gravy. Their green beans have bacon in them which I'm here for :) :) Their rolls are fluffy and hot and perfect with honey on them. I am a bit picky about sweet tea and theirs met my standards - think CFA style. We tried a couple of appetizers and they were okay but I probably wouldn't order them again.

The pies are HUGE. I have had the coconut cream and the apple. Both had great flavor! You MUST order pie when you go here :)

Both times the service was friendly and attentive. I also like when a server gives opinions - I was debating between the chicken and dumplings and the fried chicken and asked which she recommended. She said both are popular sellers but on the particular day we went the chicken and dumplings were a bit brothier than normal (I told her I like them kind of thick) so fried chicken would be a better bet. I'm glad she told me that - I did love the fried chicken!

Note that they are cash or check only, but they do have...

The Blue Springs Cafe is home to “Foot High Pies”. I was passing through and couldn’t resist that claim to fame.

From the outside, this cafe looked like just about any cafe you’d find along any highway. It was easy to access off of the interstate and had plenty of parking.

As I walked closer toward the entrance, I noticed they had a nice entryway and then a second doorway to go through. The entryway had a country style homey feel to it. It really set the stage. A sign said to seat yourself. Another sign listed their specials.

Their lunch and dinner selections were many and all the food I saw served looked well made, delicious, and portioned generously.

I was there for those “Foot High Pies” though! I had a piece of cherry pie and a piece of lemon pie. The lemon pie was definitely “Foot High”!

Both pieces of pie were fresh and extremely tasty! I had to force myself to slow down because I just wanted to gobble them up. They didn’t skimp on the serving size and they sure didn’t skimp on the flavor either!

During the early afternoon time that I was there, the servers were all young men. They were very efficient. They did their jobs well.

The cafe interior had that charming country ambiance and all was clean.

They had many fantastic looking pies on display. I would have loved to have taken some home with me, but I was heading out on a Work trip.

I’ll make a point to stop here on my next time...

We were traveling from St. Louis back to Cincy from a wedding, and saw signs for the Blue Springs Cafe foot high pie - we thought let's stop for some pie and coffee...we ended up having the most wonderful lunch. Sundays are family style - vinegar slaw, pickled beets and rolls to share first, then each person orders their own main - and it comes with mashed potatoes, gravy and green beans - all the starters and sides are unlimited. It was a crazy amount of food for the cost. We both ended up bringing home leftovers, thank goodness we had a cooler. The fried chicken is made to order, you can request, white, dark or mixed, and its 4 pieces..enough for 2 to share. My husband had the fried walleye, it was seasoned lighted and the breading wasn't greasy. We took slices of strawberry rhubarb and cherry pie home. Staff was friendly and helpful. They take cash, cheque and venmo. They also have an ATM. During lunch the place filled up quick, and we saw coming in to pickup pie orders. This place is definitely a hidden gem - don't just drive by.
