Unfortunately I won't be back. I have been here twice since the new ownership took over this spring. Both times was in the area deer hunting this fall. First time (October 8th) everything was great. Drinks are reasonable, food might be pricey on the menu but reasonable once you see how much you get. Live music was also entertaining and was not overly loud.
Things changed this past weekend. Again in the area to deer hunt and went to eat Saturday to get dinner and watch some of the MSU / UofM game. Place was busy. Tried a seat at the bar but couldn't see a TV so we moved to the only other open seats at the side "table / bar" area. Once we ordered a large group came in and we were asked to move as there was only two of us. We informed our server that moving was fine but we wanted to be able to see the TV and couldn't from the open bar seats. He then offered the table next to us as soon as the party that was there was finished (they were about to leave). We said that would be fine as soon as they go we will move. Our server then came back and said we would have to go sit at the bar because the large group needed the seats we were in. So we moved but obviously not happy since we just agreed to the offer of moving to the table. Now sitting at the bar the bar tender offered to cover a drink for the inconvenience of moving. We said thank you and in my opinion that was that. Our food then came out, I ordered a bacon cheeseburger. My cheeseburger was missing the bacon. I let our server know and informed him that I did not need the bacon now and to just take it off the bill. He apologized and that was the end of that.
Then the owner "Joe" came over and asked if everything was fine. I said yes and then as if he wanted to start a fight kept asking about the bacon and said he would "give me bacon" and then proceeded to inform us why we had to move, even though I did not ask about that. I thought it was strange and he was either just normally this rude or if he had been drinking. So after this I order another drink. The owner then come back again and again tries to start an argument. Complaining how the bartender offered us a round of drinks for moving (that was not asked for) This time he was successful in his efforts I informed him that I was very dissatisfied with my visit. From the rude way we were forced to move after agreeing to switch to a smaller table, to the burger being loaded with grease and tasting burnt like it was cooked on a dirty flat top to the owner coming up and giving me grief after I just wanted to be left alone to eat and watch some of the game. After we paid our bill and were leaving started saying things to us on the patio outside the door and even stepped toward me in a manner that I took as him wanting to fight. Thankfully someone he was hanging out with prevented him from getting too far.
I sure hope this was a one time event from this owner as if he interacts with other this way I don't see this place staying...
Read moreWe stayed here for our anniversary! Little did we know we would be in for such a treat. The resort is so beautiful and very interesting. You should look up their story on YouTube. You’ll get a great idea of the place. We stayed in the Texas Gunian room with a fireplace and an amazing view of Sage Lake out a huge picture window on two sides. The bed was so comfortable, I slept better there than at home. When you stay in these rooms, they have the feel of a cabin, so cozy and comfortable. We watched a beautiful sunrise over Sage Lake in the morning. The staff was so friendly and accommodating that it felt like a bed and breakfast. They even gave us a bottle of wine and glasses on the house when they heard it was our anniversary. They made sure we had everything we needed and checked in on us to make sure everything was going well. The food here is amazing, really over the top. The prices are also very reasonable. We ate the breakfast that came with our room. It was home cooked food and it was hard for us to believe it came with the room. It was served by the same friendly staff. You can tell they all make it their mission to make people feel welcomed and happy. We had dinner twice during our stay. We had pizza the first night and it was delicious. The second night we had the shrimp and steak garlic pasta. It was again amazing! We even had dessert to celebrate, the raspberry brownie dessert. We’ve never had anything like it. If you come, we highly recommend all the food! We didn’t know when we came they even had entertainment. We watched the football game and listened to music, while having some drinks. We couldn’t have asked for a better way to celebrate our anniversary. This place is a gem and I think we will make this an annual way...
Read moreThis past summer we lauched our pontoon at Sage Lake for the day. We discovered Kenyons during our adventure that beautiful summer day. We docked our pontoon at their very nice docks and walked up hillside to outside bar and round picnic tables. Our 2 yr old granddaughter had a blast playing on playground equipment. A few weeks later my husband and I took my parents back to Kenyons to celebrate their 57th wedding anniversary. We had told them before hand we had never ate their but would like to try it. Again it was a beautiful Saturday eve so we sat at a outside round picnic table to enjoy our experience at Kenyons. The service both visits was attentive and servers very knowlegable of menu and history of Kenyons. Now to get to the best part of our visit. The food was FANTASTIC. Our table ordered the perch dinner, chicken quesidialla and the special of chicken salad wrap with homemade potatoe salad. All was delicious! We learned they close Labor Day for the season and open again Memorial Day weekend. Anyone looking for a great place to dine out along with entertainment on Saturday evenings during summer months, I strongly encourage you to try Kenyons. They gave us a tour of entire building plus the 2 resorts they rent out. All is very very clean and nicly decorated. My family is considering renting out The Fox Den resort from her next summer. The owner has put alot of money and pride into the building and business and it shows. Please from our point of view give Kenyons a try, you cant go wrong. The history alone is interesting. Cant wait to go back...
