Update:
Too a ride out towards Centerburg to check out a place I hadn’t been to in a while, Build a Brew BBQ. I ordered the Brisket, Mac N Cheese, Baked Beans, Greens and a toasted Buttered Bread. The Brisket had a nice mild smoky flavor to it. They have 3 different homemade sauces to use. I just ate the meat plain. Delicious. The Mac N Cheese was nice and creamy and of the baked version. The Baked Beans had a slight bite to them, very tasty. Those Greens were definitely homemade and had a very fresh bite to them. Lastly was the Grilled buttered bread. Could have ordered a whole loaf of that. Super tasty!!! Chris and her crew are doing a great job providing some top level BBQ for the community. Check them out, you won’t be disappointed.
Been waiting for this place to open for awhile. Today was the day. Showed up and went inside. Inside is decorated like a backyard. Come to find out the picnic tables were made by someone locally. There is a lot of cute signage on the inside of the business, making it a comfortable setting. I met with Caleb the owner and Reba the General Manager and Cindy who was taking orders and running the register. This is a Family run business, with plenty of members. They also have an outdoor patio are with plenty of tables. On to the food because it definitely about the food. I ordered the Brisket, Pulled pork, mac and cheese, chipotle beans, coleslaw and Texas Toast. The Brisket and Pulled Pork were smoked with walnut wood. Had a nice mild flavor to them, both were super moist. The mac and cheese looked like an old fashioned mac and cheese with the small elbow macaroni but the surprise was they used a Gruyere cheese in it, super smooth and delicious tasting. On to the surprise of all the dishes, chipotle beans. I was half expecting some sort of baked beans from this, NOT!!! It was a dish made with chipotle beans, chipotle peppers, bbq sauce, garlic and a number of other secret ingredients. This definitely revved up my taste buds, Yummy!!! The coleslaw was made with ALL FRESH ingredients, nothing bagged here, all of it was hand chopped fresh vegetables. The dressing was a light homemade vinegar based dressing, that was off the chart. The final thing was Texas Toast, nice n thick with an off the chart butter solution on it. OMG, I could have sat there all day eating just that. To say it mildly I was surprised at the high level of BBQ being put out by them. They definitely took the time to come up with a great menu of outstanding dishes for their customers. Welcome to the next hottest BBQ Restaurant. Don't miss out on this opportunity. They are currently open 1100-0800 PM...
Read moreAs I entered Centerburg, on my way to Smithhisler, I saw a BBQ banner on the side of the road. I was sure to make a mental note because I'm always looking for great BBQ.
I finished stocking up at Smithhisler Meats and felt the hunger set in. I decided it was time to eat, so I busted out my cell and punched in the words "Centerburg" and "BBQ". Google found it pretty quickly. A quick skim of reviews and I knew I had to see for myself. GPS was set and awaaaay we go!
It's just a little off the main road, 36, and appears to be at the back of a small golf course. Main parking to the right and 3 carryout spots upfront to the left. As I entered the property, I saw a father and son carrying bags in each hand with enough BBQ to feed a small army. Clearly, they are fans! Can't wait!
The family running the place was very nice and helpful. The inside is very rustic and spacious. Everything was clean and the menus were clear and easy to read. The prices are more than reasonable and the portions are exactly what you want from a BBQ joint. Also, they have a wide selection of very affordable beers and a nice covered patio to enjoy them on.
I got the Brisket Meal with Green Beans and Mac for $12.50 and an additional side of Baked Beans for $2.50. The food traveled back to Columbus and was still just as good as I had hoped.
The brisket was very tender and pulled apart with ease. I had cuts from various parts of the brisket, with the right amount of fat for each respective cut. The mac n cheese was an excellent consistency. I suspect they may use the "house made cheese sauce" that they have listed on the menu. The green beans were tender and very flavorful. The baked beans had diced onion and bell pepper with a sweet flavor. The buttery Texas Toast was soft by the time I got home, but I threw it in thr toaster oven and was perfect.
I will...
Read moreCan't say enough about Build a Brew BBQ. Quiet (on Table Rock golf course), friendly (one of the owners served us and checked how we were doing, great BBQ (my wife had chicken quarters) and steak (what I had). The servings were large, the steak was a great hand picked cut, cooked to order, sides were awesome (if you like broccoli salad and hand cut fries, order them!!) and the beer was ice cold. Also, I didn't taste the chicken but it looked tender and juicy. Definitely do yourself a favor and check them out. They're only open 2 more weekends due to the end of golf season, buck they'll be back in 2023. They were out of brisket by six and that's what I really wanted, so now I have to back, lol. Pictured is my 8oz New York strip, but was closer to 10oz. 15$ gets you the steak, texas toast, and two sides....
