This was good but ultimately bad due to my food. My family would probably not be as harsh as me because, they all enjoyed their food. Being my long promised birthday steak dinner it was a great disappointment to me. To start with, our waiter was attentive and friendly but, we waited over 45 minutes for our food. The hush puppies were good. Maybe a little dark on the outside but inside they were lovely and fluffy. My son had the fried calamari and being quite picky about his food seemed to have enjoy it. My wife had the scallops with risotto and the scallops were cooked perfectly. My daughter had the seafood pasta and she chowed down saying it was quite tasty. We all shared the Savannah baked oysters which were very good. I had the ribeye. My disappointment was really in that it was supposed to come with a peppercorn butter which if you look at the photo was really garlic butter. I specifically chose this instead of the tri tip because I fancied a predominantly peppercorn sauce. The quality of the meat was also a bit dubious. See the photo with the amount of fat left over. It was not really melt in the mouth prepared either and this was maybe because it stood a little longer waiting to be served. I have purchased better quality meat at my local Wallmart. Maybe the establishment should consider using Wallmart as their supplier. Lastly, it seems most of the dishes come with the same side of vegetables - lemon garlic brocolini. We all received green beans. Maybe they should change the menu to vegetables of the day. If this was a one off, the waiting staff should have at least said something to that effect. My take is that this restaurant is good with seafood and that people ahould stay away from the meat selections. Especially if you pay $40 for your steak. For those wondering why I did not say something - it was because, I did not want to let my excited family know that my birthday dinner was a bit of a...
Read moreAs a patron of Old Oyster Factory since my childhood in the 90s, I have many fond memories of good meals spent with family. Just this past week I had the chance to dine there with my own family and unfortunately, my nostalgia of good meals didn't match my current day experience.
We had lunch this past week, and the place was practically empty. That was my first red flag. As a party of seven with an empty restaurant I expected service to be quick but the kitchen was very slow, and the quality of the food we received was disappointing to say the least.
I ordered the fish/shrimp tacos for lunch. Not only was there an over abundance of cabbage on my tacos that made it hard to find or taste the seafood, but what should have been a dry dish was dripping liquid all over my plate leaving it soggy and unpleasant.
My daughter ordered the kids pizza for lunch which was laughably tiny for eight dollars, only about five inches across, and tasted frozen.
My mother ordered Fried Green Tomatoes, but was very displeased at what should have been a simple southern staple was over dressed with heavy melted pimento cheeses.
My father had coleslaw that tasted as if it had gone past its sell by date, but said nothing because he didn't want to rock the boat.
The only highlight of the visit were the five dollar mimosas that the adults of the table ordered. And while they took quite a while to arrive, they did taste very nice.
The TL;DR is this: you are paying for a fabulous view and beautiful rustic decor. The food has lost its direction completely. Maybe dinner service is different, but the lunch service is just not worth it, as much as it pains me to say. As an old fan of the Old Oyster Factory, it makes me sad to see the direction the kitchen and...
Read moreFirst of all, Peter was kind enough to take it upon himself to ensure that my party of 3 had the best experience at The Old Oyster Factory that we could have ever expected. As 3 locals, Peter had us feeling as if we were visiting Hilton Head Island for the first time ever. He was sure to be extremely attentive, talkative, and most importantly, genuine. His recommendations were spot-on, and his enthusiasm for both the food and the atmosphere made our evening truly memorable. It’s clear that Peter takes great pride in his work, and his positive energy was contagious. Second of all, Alexa provided exceptional service, combining warmth and professionalism to make our evening unforgettable. She was attentive to every detail and made us feel genuinely cared for. Her friendly demeanor and efficiency truly elevated our dining experience. We can’t wait to continue to return and hope to have the pleasure of being served by them again! Third, but certainly not the last of the exceptional shoutouts, Bryan went above and beyond to ensure our evening was perfect. His attentive service, friendly personality, and dedication to making us feel welcome made a lasting impression. Bryan was sure to check in on us before our evening was over and he took the time to wish us our safe travels home and check in about what the rest of our weekend would entail. The staff members of The Old Oyster Factory truly exemplifies top-notch hospitality and I would recommend this restaurant to anyone and everyone who has the good fortune of visiting The Old Oyster Factory on Hilton...
