We were, unfortunately, disappointed with our dining experience at Bluestone today. We arrived around 2:00 and after viewing the buffet offerings, which were somewhat already depleted, asked to order an entree, but were told the dinner options were only available after 5. We were brought sweet tea, instead of the unsweetened that we had ordered, and I was never offered a coffee refill (at $4 instead of the $2.99 listed on the online menu). Our food was just so-so. My Caesar Salad was missing the croutons, but was fresh, although the dressing appeared to be a low-quality bottled type. The blue cheese dip for the wings (which were not that impressive) lacked any resemblance in taste or texture to blue cheese dressing. My husband's brown beans tasted suspiciously like they were canned beans (maybe Luck's? ), and the cornbread was hard on one edge and appeared to have been microwaved longer than necessary. When I inquired about the menu price differences we were told that the website menus hadn't been updated in "two or three" years. The waitress forgot to leave a pen with the bill, and my husband finally just walked up to the register and waited for someone to notice him. What was supposed to be a late Valentine's outing ended up being, really, a good laugh, the joke being on us, with a beautiful view included. Maybe we were just unlucky today, and maybe the food and service ARE normally great there, as some of the other reviews stated. But we don't plan to return...

Going to the Pipestem State Park Bluestone Dining Room was a Mother’s Day treat for my special gal. Although we didn’t arrive until 12:20 PM, we couldn’t order from the menu. After bring seated, we were told the only food available until 2:00 PM was the Breakfast Buffet. Already being seated, we agreed to breakfast. The selection was minimal and contained a salad bar along with desserts, kinda strange! As stated, selection of food was sparse and included fish. After selection the usual scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage gravy and biscuit, one helping was all we could handle. Not that we were full, but the semi-cold food was all we could stand. When ordering the check, the real surprise came. The total for two buffet meals, one glass of water and one regular size soft drink was $59.34. That’s when we were told the management increased the price because “it was Mother’s Day” Totally outrageous. I ask the waiter what would happen if I refused to pay the exorbitant price, his reply was “guess you’ll have to wash dishes”! This was our first experience with Breakfast at the Pipestem State Park Bluestone Dining Room and it will definitely be our last. One last note, we were not told the price of the breakfast buffet before agreeing to it, assuming the cost would be reasonable and the smell of the fish overwhelmed the he dining area. Next Mother’s Day lunch, after church services, will be somewhere besides Bluestone Dining Room. Very disappointed with both...

While staying at the lodge at Pipestem State Park, we had dinner here on our first night.

Upon entering, the dining room is well appointed and it was not busy at all. We were seated immediately and our wait staff did a fine job during the entire Dining experience.

We placed our order and it took a slightly long time to get our food but it was not extremely long.

When the food came out, it looked amazing! See pics.

I had the WV Trout Almandine which came with veggie du jour! My wife had the Sacory Smothered Chicken Breast with veggie du jour! My meal was cooked perfect but her chicken was a little over done so it was dry! The salad bar was decent but small, which is fine!

The 3 star rating comes from the fact that my wife found egg shells in her chopped eggs that she put on her salad from the salad bar! They did take a small fee of about $5 off of our bill but that doesn’t change the nasty feeling of biting into egg shells!

The other part of the rating was due to the fact that although the pricing was reasonable, the desert pricing was outrageous! See menu pics!

The location and facilities was wonderful. The experience with wait staff was horrid. Barely got sat down after 15 minutes of standing around waiting on the staff to say anything. Got seated. Never seen a soul. Some other server brought us drinks. The salad was fantastic. Very simple but very good. Hope then died with that glimmer of light. First time n my life I about left a place without paying. The hot buffet? Holy smokes get the Tylenol out. Meat loaf. Ok. Tempura shrimp, Philly cheesesteak egg rolls, Brussel sprouts, corn on the cob, sweet potato casserole, sweet potato fries, cherry cobbler. How does one fix a plate out of those ingredients? It just sucked. I’ll come back when there is new management, wait staff and cook. Pathetic of a place with nothing but potential in a beautiful environment.
