My wife and I were in Charleston on a vacation, and accidentally found Pane E Vino, a dark but welcoming little place off King Street. What a great surprise! The atmosphere is really comfortable, and the waitstaff friendly and attentive. But as with all restaurants, it's the food that's important, and here Pane E Vino really delivers. Our first course was a burrata salad. Now, this may be problematic, because Pane E Vino doesn't always have burrata on hand--it is an incredibly fresh ball of mozzarella cheese, hand formed, with a creamy center. Seriously, if this is on the menu, THEN UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD YOU MISS THIS. This transcendent dish was the simplicity defined: the mozzarella, creamy and perfect in the center, surrounded by a vibrant ring of arugula dressed with lemon and oil, and a few chopped tomatoes. The acidity of the dressing helped cut through the rich cheese, the earthiness of the arugula matched well with the juicy tomato--put them all together and that's a perfect bite. Granted, it would be impossible to follow up such an amazing dish, but the rest was lovely as well--I had the lamp ragu, my wife had a seafood pasta that was just great. The dessert was a chocolate chip gelato that was a nice ending to the meal, especially with an espresso drink that was also done to perfection--the little details are attended to at Pane E Vino. One suggestion for the owners, if they read this: we loved your restaurant, top to bottom, service, food, atmosphere. Please spend a couple of hundred bucks to make some menus that don't look cheap. It looks as if you bought the folders second hand and printed them off on cheap paper with a bad font. Get someone who writes to make nice descriptions, etc. Your place is too wonderful to have the menu--our introduction to your...

Service was just ok Atmosphere inside just ok, a little stuffy for my liking. Outside nice but and could be fantastic. Flimsy iron table furniture that rocked with every move.

Fried Calamari small thin pieces. Small shrimp. All battered and fried. Extremely crispy and way over cooked. Like eating seafood chips. Presented with half lemon no sauce. No flavor, We did not like it at all.

The main courses were both terrible. Spaghetti Allo Scoglio A seafood pasta dish that was way over cooked. Scollops tiny cracked and rubbery. They could not have been fresh. Mussels were medium size and rubbery. Small amount of pasta that sat in a small watery broth. The dish looked like it sat under a hot lamp because pasta was dry on top. Overall it had "zero" flavor.

Pappardelle Con L'anatra. The pasta itself definitely homemade, but too thick and heavy. Was very doughy. It was tossed in a mushrooms cream sauce which was ok. Cream sauce tends to get too rich too quickly. The duck leg texture seemed like it was precooked looking at the texture which to me looked and tasted old.

We both did not finish our meals. We were very disappointed: quality control is needed badly here. We will not go back to spend another $80.

The server did ask in the beginning if all was ok, but we just received our meals. I usually don't say anything but at the end I did. She said sorry and that we should have said something, so now I felt like it was our fault, maybe so for not saying anything but I am not one for drama on a date. These were easy dishes, didn't think they...

A Hidden Gem of Italian Excellence

Tucked away from the tourist crowds, Pane E Vino (bread & wine) is an absolute treasure for anyone craving authentic Italian cuisine. From the moment you step inside, the warm, inviting ambiance and the rich aroma of simmering sauces transport you straight to Italy.

The menu is a masterclass in traditional flavors with a modern touch. The handmade pasta is perfectly al dente, and the sauces burst with depth and character—whether it’s the silky, slow-cooked bolognese or the Gorgonzola sauce. The pizza is an absolute must-try! Coming from an authentic Italian pizza oven.

Service is impeccable—genuine hospitality that makes you feel like a valued guest rather than just another diner. The owner might even stop by to chat, sharing stories of family recipes or recommending the perfect wine pairing from their impressive selection.

Save room for dessert, because the tiramisu is nothing short of divine—light, airy, and perfectly balanced. Paired with a strong espresso or a sip of limoncello, it’s the perfect way to end an unforgettable meal.

If you’re looking for a truly authentic Italian experience away from the usual tourist traps, Pane E Vino is well worth seeking out. A meal here isn’t just dinner—it’s a love letter to...

Went to this wonderful little Italian restaurant for our wedding anniversary. Frank was our waiter and he was wonderfully attentive, brought us 2 complimentary glasses of champagne and recited all of the specials ingredient by ingredient. After ordering a gin and tonic and a special made mudslide, we ordered the duck leg with mushroom pappardelle and the lasagna with bolognese. Both incredible. We had tiramisu for dessert and Italian coffee. Excellent. I’d recommend a relaxing, delicious evening at Pane e Vino.

Fabulous Italian restaurant in Hollywood, SC. My wife and I with my sister and her husband thoroughly enjoyed our meal and the service at this quality restaurant. We had Lobster Bisque, Tile fish with tomato olive sauce, Risotto with scallops, shrimp and muscles, Lasagna paired with a great Sicilian red wine and Tiramisu for dessert. We were overwhelmed with the meal and the service that we received. Definitely another trip to this fantastic restaurant is due soon. Viva Italiano!
