First I would like to say how friendly the owners are but I hate to say the food was horrible. I moved here from Tampa area last year and have been dying for a REAL Cuban sandwich. I ordered it cold and 4 beef empanades. The sandwich was awful,2 very thin slices of very cheap ham, chunks of Spanish pork which didn't taste fresh and it was already made and taken soggy out of fridge which is probably why he asked me twice to press it. The empanades were not fresh either and the meat tasted like it was cooked and reheated to make them. I was very disappointed. He has alot of items cooked and I can't imagine he can do all of it daily. Believe me what I tried wasn't quality Spanish food but maybe the other dishes are better. They have been there a long time so maybe this was an off day or he was getting rid...
Read moreI live in Chicago, so Cuban food is hard to come by as a lot of the Cuban restaurants I've grown up with have since closed; However, I discovered America Grocery while visiting family and this place is fantastic. The Cuban sandwiches are just like how I remember having them in Chicago and Miami. The Cuban bread was soft and fresh. I was in my own little happy world. I would recommend this to anyone looking for...
Read moreOk...Im from Miami. Was told THIS was the place for Authentic Cuban Sandwiches. I walked in and thought "yep...just like a bodega..nice". I ordered my Cuban, It arrived pre-assembled...no harm done. Then to my dismay, straight into the microwave...by the time I started wondering how long you could heat a Cuban...theres was over 3 minutes left on the timer! Was it frozen? Anyhow, after the radiation treatment, it got pressed. Verdict: It was a bit disappointing...the taste was ok. The bread was chewey not dry and crusty. I never expect a real Cuban to be overpacked with meat (im told it was a poor persons dish in Cuba)...I think skipping the microwave would improve the...
