Went to Wallace’s for 30th anniversary after having an amazing first experience for a NYE/birthday dinner a few weeks ago. This time, not so great. We were seated immediately (reservations at 4:00 pm) and given bread plates and silverware. It took awhile for our server to come around. She told us drink specials, no food specials, and what they were out of (no duck, shrimp and grits, the grits part, and one other entree, which 3 plates are 1/4 of their entree menu). We ordered cocktails and the server actually made them at the bar. That’s a bit unusual not to have a bartender make cocktails. She brought them and left, we didn’t ordered for quite awhile after that. Side note, a group was sitting near us and after we got our drinks they asked if someone could wait on them. They were there before us and had not been waited on at all. They were nice about it and the server was apologetic. We expected bread the entire time and it never came out. She came back, took our order and left. We were thinking she’d bring bread now that the order was in. Nope. When she passed back by I asked for bread and she stated they don’t serve bread prior to 5 pm. We were not aware they do not serve bread before 5 pm. It was 4:48 pm at that time. Can you not bring some bread? We smelled it. In 12 minutes people would then get bread, but not us. We did not know this until well after we ordered main course. We did not order starters because we thought we would get bread. We would’ve gotten starters. We were given small plates. Why? Disappointing. We just sat there drinking terrible cocktails our server made us. I don’t think she knows how to make proper cocktails. She did bring it to the table, set it down, then ask if I ordered the margarita with tequila. Very odd. She was acting very strange the longer the service went. When we received our food from another server, we noticed our server being absent from patrons but still just wandering around. She looked vacant and was clumsily walking and swaying around and just slow moving. We witnessed her quickly drink something from a shot glass near the kitchen entrance, whatever that was, it’s very unprofessional and probably the issue. We had to ask multiple times for our bill so we could get out of there. Finally she brought the bill but not the tablet to check us out so we had to wait for that and finally I asked if we take it up front. She brought the tablet 5 minutes later. She definitely acted, well, drunk, and hiccuped while checking us out. Just so rude. We shouldn’t have left a tip, but did, as we always do. All the while we were waiting on her to get herself together, another group was seated where the first group had been forgotten, and that person got up and asked for a server. This server (I will leave her name out of it) did not have it together and it affects the entire vibe of the restaurant, experience, and food. Notice I haven’t even written about the food. It was good, but not like before, and again, this server really took away from the experience. Also during our meal, we heard that duck and something else was available. Another server offered food specials to patrons. I have no idea if they withhold food specials until after 5 pm as well as bread? Just so weird. We will not be going back. Too pricey for an inebriated server and no bread before 5 pm. Noticing some recent reviews, this place needs to regroup and press the...
Read moreThis place is small but quaint, inviting, uniquely decorated, and clean, We arrived at a prime dinner time on Friday when the restaurant was busy and decided to grab two open seats at the bar. Ordered two drinks and appetizers came out really quick. Bartender has a great sense of humor. And yes (RENNY) from a below review mentioned the bartender talked with us throughout our meal. Why, yes he did and had a great sense of humor. Imagine that?!?! Is that not what bartenders are supposed to do these days, engage with the patrons???
All the food was amazing and definitely above avarage for this area made with fresh ingredients. We thoroughly enjoyed the hummus, domas, and both entrees Pork Chop and Parmesan Pesto Cod. Another local business owner (KC Wine Bar) recommended us to this place. So happy we finally tried it and will definitely be back.
Yes, we also got to witness an unpleasant patron to say the least. This is when we realized our bartender was the owner's son since he ended up having to resolve the matter by letting her go with an entire box of food at zero cost! This patron (Karen) had the young hostess/waitress in tears which is absolutely unacceptable causing all the waitstaff to be walking on egg shells scrambling even breaking a glass behind the bar. It is so unfortunate that ungrateful and entitled patrons such as this and RENNY who left the below review exist.
This was our first visit where we had the opportunity to the learn Chef Wallace attended Johnson & Wales in Rhode Island which is one of the best culinary schools in the country. It just so happens to be where I was born, raised, and spend a couple months out of the year as my mother and siblings are still there. We also learned from the bartender (sorry not good with names) that Wallace at the Greenhouse opened 5 years ago, and he and his father, Chef Wallace have dedicated each and every day since to this restaurant. Bartender shared that he had only taken 3 days in the past 5 years off with 1 of those days being a sick day. If this is not dedicated, I don't know what is.
Long story short, nasty entitled patrons are the reason why restaurants such as this do not exist leaving us with garbage fast food and chains. These patrons have no knowlege base of what good "authentic" food even is nomatter hold an appreciation or understanding of what it takes to provide it day after day. Yet, they have the audacity and no problem leaving a bad review. They do not give it a second thought on how it will affect a small business. All I can say is try this place first before making a decision off of the reviews.
The location is off a busy main road but the property itself is spacious, well manicured and designed with beautiful waterview and tables outside. They even have an area that is cleared for the public to launch kayaks. We are so pleased that we finally tried this place and will definitely be back. Thank you all for your dedication...
Read moreI was recommended by Google when I searched gluten free and I asked my friend from homosassa if he liked it and he said"I don’t know anything about them but there food looks better than it is" but I came in anyway on Saturday March 2nd at 2pm for the first time and was excited to try the menu. I asked whether the green goat or the Calypso salad would be better and the waiter who was also the chef/owners son told me to go with the green goat! It was very yummy! I looked at the menu some more while enjoying my salad and I asked if I should go with the duck breast or the curry. He told me my choice was easy today since they're out of duck breast I would have to go with the curry. I was kind of upset and sad since I've been a server for over a decade and I would never let anyone look at the menu for as long as I did without telling them we were out of anything, especially something like duck breast! The curry was colorful and beautiful and delicious. After my meal I ordered pistachio gelato and I asked if I could add strawberries to it. The waiter said they didn't have strawberries but I just had them on my salad. Maybe they ran out of strawberries after my salad and that's what he meant? Overall great atmosphere and good food. Apparently they share tips and if I knew this would affect Sebastian I would have tipped more but I left $10 on my $40 bill instead of $20 like I would have. I visited again last night and had a better experience so I'm editing my review. I had the green goat salad again and it was delicious as always! But missing the candied pecans but it still has nuts. Me thought that was funny because my boyfriend is trying to stay away from processed sugar anyways. We both had the duck and it was delicious! Unfortunately the salad that came with it was so good but the duck was lacking a little, maybe just needed some salt but we were too hungry to ask for it before we continued! Hailey was the best server ever! So personal and friendly and never forgot to come back after every course to do a two bite check back to make sure it was satisfying. I was able to get strawberries with my coconut gelato and it was so rich and yummy I had to take it home! I also had the espresso martini with vodka and wow!!! Just the perfect amount of sweetness!!...
