I tried the Drive-Thru for lunch on a Wednesday around 1pm. I was the only car at the time, and ordering service was polite, helpful, and efficient. I ordered the BBQ pork plate (mild or hot sauce), which includes 3 sides and a bread (white, roll, or cornbread). I selected my three sides: turnip greens, onion & cucumber, and potato salad. I was shocked by the weight of the bag when they passed it through the window and pleasantly surprised by the generous portions of potato salad and BBQ! It was an excellent lunch value at less than $12! You could even possibly make this into two meals for one person! I would definitely order all again!
A couple things I would caution:
Ask if the sauce will be served in a cup or poured over the BBQ. As you see, there is no "sauce" in my picture, but I believe they may have applied it directly to the BBQ, or they forgot to include a cup of sauce. Regardless, it was not lacking flavor and still delicious!
In the past, I have ordered pickup and unbeknownst to me arrived home to find a totally different potato salad recipe used (looked like a Sysco bag potato salad, just potatoes coated in a lot of mayo). When I called back, I was told they were out of supplies to make their housemade version but did not warn/tell me when I ordered - so a quart of potato salad went directly the trash, which was disappointing and very frustrating. 😮💨
Hopefully, overall this info will help customers when placing orders in the future. They have great BBQ...
Read moreHoly cow. My best friend was visiting from San Diego. We've never even heard of burgoo so decided on this place to try out new cuisine since he's a chef and foodie! Well, they were so wonderful that they brought out samples since we didn't know how much burgoo to order and I wasn't sure of how gamey the mutton was. I wanted to order something different since I can have pulled meat anywhere in these parts. The burgoo was AMAZING to try. I can't believe I've been living in Oak Grove for 7 years and never heard of this regional stew! We got most of the ingredients off of our server but she wouldn't tell us the secret of the sauce!... Ugh, the broth is what makes it so delicious so it'll remain a mystery! Our entire meal was delicious. It has a local dive vibe but everyone knows that those are the places where the best food is made. The customer service is what makes it 5 stars! The place was absolutely packed yet our server was not acting rushed at all and made so much effort with us that it made everything perfect! We didn't even mention that my best friend was from San Diego until we were ready to leave. She said to make sure he put a pin in the map! We were wondering what the map was with all of the pins in it was for when we first walked in! This restaurant should be on the list of places to go if you're ever in the area. It...
Read moreShort: A must eat destination! I drove 39 minutes out of my way to eat here. I was impressed once again beyond measure. The best smoked pulled pork I have ever eaten! Great prices, huge portions. Amazing down home cooking!
Long: I should have posted pics...But after I took the first bite all thoughts of posing my food were out the window. It was too good to stop!
This is hands down one of the best Bar-b-que restaurants I have ever eaten at. If you are looking for a society dining experience, this is not for you! If you are looking for authentic down home cooking and southern hospitality I suggest you try The Wood Shed. They cook food the way their grandma's used to. They serve it the same way, piled high. You don't need a buffet when places like this serve more than you can eat. I'm a big boy who can put it away, and I had a whole meal left from my $8.00 meal. DONT FORGET TO SAVE ROOM FOR HOMEMADE PIE!
The prices are really reasonable without any compromise on quality. I had Smoked pulled pork with two sides, cornbread and pie for desert along with a drink for about $12.00.
The waitresses are sweet and hospitable. Their service was terrific.
The decor is southern charm and concrete floors. Not ritzy but very comfortable.
Bottom line: If you ever have an opportunity to eat at The Wood...
