I have been going here most of my life. Hometown feel. The best grinder rolls I've ever had. Kind of ruined me because now I compare all grinder rolls to this place. My second favorite is the cold pizza. The only thing that stinks is that I can't always get pizza strips because it's been sold out. Which is a huge Downer. Third fav is there Bismarcks or doughnuts.. Bismarcks are pillows of heaven in your mouth. Absolutely delicious. Will always love this place! Great food and service. Love when I lived in Hope Valley. My belly was always happy. Call ahead if you want to guarantee your food. My uncle came in 2022 to get Bismarcks. I told him those aren't West Bakery Bismarcks since I have been eating them for most of my life. They looked smaller, in different shapes, and when you eat them, the filling comes right out. Have no idea why, after having perfection, they're went and changed them. Went in 2023, and Bismarcks are back the way they used to be. Yes! Was so excited. Got my grinder and my Bismarcks. Was very, very happy 2025 I have had a debate with my mom that the pizza is cut in strips and she said it was cut in triangles. Wasn't until today I got what she was talking about. We preordered pizza, 8 strips. Got home and we had triangles. I honestly was shocked, never in 30 years have I had it look like this. Come to find out this is how they originally used to cut it when my mom was young. It Taste the same but crispier than the strips. Strips not crispy until you get to the end the crust. This round pizza was on the crispy crust so it was crispy the entire time. Have no idea which is better,...
Read moreI've been going to West's Bakery, as a local resident, since I moved here in 2013. The Bismarcks are some of the best I've ever had and highly addicting.
But this review is about more than that. The folks over at West's Bakery did their best to stay open for take-out and for those of us who are addicted to their baked goods.
Recently, they re-opened the dining area for restricted sit-down dining. I took my daughter to breakfast like I had so many times before. For some reason, probably due to all the "let-downs" we are becoming used to in this pandemic...my expectations were nothing to note.
However, when I got the food...I realized why I am so loyal to this place. It may only be eggs and home-fries, toast and coffee...but the cooks here at West's not only do it BETTER than anywhere else (local, anyway) but they were even BETTER than before Covid.
Perfectly cooked over-easy eggs, delicious real breakfast sausage, homefries that were "creamy" on the inside with a little snap left on the outside...toast that is not only cooked to perfection, but also buttered properly. Hot coffee that is always full with a smile.
And to end it all with a Bismarck (or two...)!
Seriously, why go anywhere else?
I was a chef in a previous occupation and understand that amount of work that goes into breakfast and for little revenue. I also know the challenge of plating multiple breakfast items at the same time...HOT - and these guys just hit it out of the...
Read morePoor Service with even poorer Covid -19 response.
Firstly, their "we may have it" mentality when it comes to offering baked goods is as reliable as driving 15-30 minutes there and reading a sign on there door. Unprofessional and lazy at best.
Secondly, their employees lack of hardwork is overwhelmingly apparent. It takes 7 minutes to watch them make a medium REGULAR ice-coffee? At no other business would that be considered acceptable but here it's somehow common place.
And lastly, and worst of all, there Covid-19 response is a joke. Very few posted warning and CDC guidelines. The store itself is far too small to effectively prevent the spread of the disease. And the workers are far too busy spending 15 minutes on two coffees to even consider cleaning let alone creating effective and reasonable Covid-19 policies.
Overall a poor and dangerous visit that I'll be sure to not make again...
