Artfully Baked and Brewed — Restaurant in Hot Springs Village

I have been a repeat customer here, mostly due to the lack of competition, until today. While their food and coffee has been mediocre at best, the behavior I witnessed from the manager/(owner?) this morning was inexcusable. Several customers and myself were at the counter when she pulled a cake from the case and loudly mocked her staff for contaminating it with crumbs from another cake. She continued to make rude comments about her staff and the mistake, in front of them to a customer. I was shocked to see such a display of unnecessary cruelty from someone who appeared to hold a role of responsibility at this business. Her behavior was unprofessional and unkind. To the women behind the counter, I am sorry for not speaking up in the moment, and I hope you know you deserve more decency and respect than you received today. I appreciated your friendly attitudes and quick work despite the busyness of the cafe this morning. To the manager, I hope you read this and choose to act differently in the future. You could have easily chosen to fix the cake and address the mistake privately to spare the embarrassment of your staff.

I recommend you take your business elsewhere, you can find comparable pastries in the Brookshire’s bakery or make the drive to hot springs to visit one of the many decent cafes we have downtown. (Personally would choose cafe mi amor or kollective as both are high quality for coffee, breakfast, and lunch) Support local businesses that treat their staff...

Interesting. They somehow removed all their previous reviews. Maybe because many of them mentioned the rude owner and also the fact they don’t wear gloves when preparing food. Several folks noticed it, and left 1-star reviews, to warn others, including myself. My husband and I witnessed a worker pulling out slices of deli turkey to make a sandwich, with her bare hands. This was after I paid for my order, and she touched my cash. No washing in-between! Thankfully I only got a latte. But, the latte was one of the worst I’ve ever had, it didn’t taste like it had any espresso in it, just coffee and milk (and it was expensive but you’d never know because they didn’t list prices anywhere). I never would have left a bad review over a latte, but the dirty hand food prep is a safety hazard so I wanted to warn others. And other negative reviews mentioned it, too. Yet they continued to use these unsafe practices. I called the Arkansas board of health to ask them if this is a violation in this state and they said yes. Please start...
