This was my husband and I’s first visit. Service was good, the employees were hospitable and even when we asked to exchange an entree after it was made. My only gripe would be that it’s a pet peeve of mines for employees to be eating in the kitchen area, especially when they’re the ones cooking or delivering orders and where customers can see them, and this was the case today.
Here’s what we ordered for $50: Gumbo Fried Shrimp w/ greens and fried okra Fried Ribs w/ macaroni and red beans & rice Koolaid
I didn’t eat the gumbo, my husband said it was “cool”, not the best but definitely not the worst he’s had. The gumbo has chicken, sausage and shrimp. The shrimp looked to be good size. he didn’t comment on the chicken too much, other than a couple of super large chunks that could’ve been diced into a few pieces. We like a hearty, quality sausage and from across the table, it looked like hot dog. It was not hot dog, but you know how the cheap sausage looks like hot dog, it was like that. My husband said it wasn’t eckeridge, but it certainly wasn’t even Chappell Hill. It had a nice brown roux, which I prefer, I’m not a fan of super super dark roux.
The fried shrimp was good. It’s hard to mess that up, especially when they make pre seasoned fish fry. The grease could’ve been fresher, but overall it wasn’t bad. It’s the only thing I would order again.
My husband liked the macaroni and cheese. It wasn’t bad, just wasn’t my taste preference…but I also am hard on Mac and cheese…if it isn’t my momma’s, I’m not really here for it lol The person who took our order described it as “creamy Mac, not a baked style”
Cornbread came with both meals. It’s more cakey than cornbread. My husband loved it, but he doesn’t like cornbread at all. It was very sweet. It had something drizzled and soaked into it, but I couldn’t put my finger on what it was. It was buttery, but didn’t taste like straight honey butter.
The fried okra was okay. Most pieces had a decent crunch, but not all were battered and some were battered and fried stuck together, so the interior was a little dough like because you can’t cook fried okra for too long, so the batter stuck between the pieces didn’t fry all the way. Definitely needed to be seasoned, but I wasn’t too mad at this side. I ate all of it except the stuck together/doughy pieces.
Red beans and rice was good, would be better with sausage.
Greens were good until I got down to the part soaked in the juice. The juice was soooooo salty that it made the greens way too salty. I like having the greens juice, but I couldn’t eat them anymore once the top half that wasn’t soaking was gone.
We sent the fried ribs back. I was going to try them, but one look after the first bite and I could see that it was bad on my husbands face. He said the seasoning wasn’t bad, but the meat tasted like it was freezer burned or just wasn’t fresh. You can tell it was a wet batter and not just seasoning the meat and the flour because it cracked off when it was bit into leaving the meat exposed, which did not at all look appetizing. He exchanged them for the fried shrimp…again, can’t go wrong with fried shrimp…in most places it’s the safest option, and that stands true for this restaurant.
My husband described the Kool-aid as “interesting, but not necessarily bad, it’s Kool-aid”….do with those thoughts as you will lol
The atmosphere is very chill with mostly high cocktail table seating with bar stools. They were playing early 2000s R&B videos which we thought was cool. When you first walk in I would expect to smell seasoning or some sort of essence of the food, but couldn’t. If you sniff too hard, you can smell the “nail salon” smell from the neighboring nail salon, can’t really help that, but just an observance. Parking is scarce in the front, but there is more in the back.
Overall, I wouldn’t be mad if someone brought me here again, as there are a couple of times that I could get again if I happened to be here, but I am not planning to drive 25 minutes across town again for it.
Update: be near the restroom when...
Read more(original review) I made an order online just to be told that they were out of one of the items I ordered and then proceeded to tell me they didn’t start making my order because they didn’t have the ticket for it (which doesn’t make sense because how did you know what I ordered if you didn’t have the ticket) and had already charged my card. I planned on replacing what I ordered and asked for a refund for the price difference and they acted as if they couldn’t refund my card and eventually did just that. I then asked how long it would take for my order since they hadn’t started it and they said 20 minutes so when I came back inside 20 minutes later to pick up my order they ignored me until I started asking questions just to find out they gave my food to someone else. I waited 40 minutes in total from the time I arrived until they finally told me my order was given away for food that should have been ready 10 minutes before I initially got to the establishment. Poor customer service at it finest
(reply to business) This review is in response to the businesses response to my original review and I would like to say I was actually excited about trying this establishments and am in shock at the lies and attempts to justify the experience I had.
I am aware of the reason the cashier had to call someone to process my refund, however the problem is that the cashier tried to persuade me multiple times to take the refund in cash when I explained multiple times I wanted the refund on my card.
Second, no one contacted me from this establishment and I have the call logs to prove so. If that was the case they would have let me know when I arrived. Instead, I was told they didn't have the ticket which is why my food was not made and then proceeded to tell me they were out of what I ordered (without me even mentioning my order to them) as to why the food wasn't made. So, this comes off as excuses, lies and poor customer service.
I had a poor experience and I am sharing that experience because that is the purpose of the reviews to allow other customers to make informed decisions on trying any establishment. I hope that the customer service is better for others and they don't have the experience I did, however the review is accurate to...

I learned of BFK exactly 1.5hrs before I stepped foot inside, despite traveling Scott a dozen times over the last few months since the 288 exit is closed on 610. Maybe I missed it because I’m too busy cosplaying a Fast & Furious extra as I weave in and out of the cruising septuagenarians that populate the area. Who knows? The point is that I not only learned of this place on a beautiful Saturday afternoon, but I got to eat there as well.
It’s a small restaurant tucked at the end of a strip of businesses at the corner of Scott and Bellfort. The decor immediately sucked me in, the array of mirrors and vintage-style artwork living up to the Funk in the name. The menu is small so it didn’t take long to order and I was pleased to realize that my food was being cooked fresh. What I had is listed below.
Everything was great, Peaches was sweet and helpful, and...
