I-am-craving-oysters feeling hit hard today! 🦪 Nothing was going to stop us from the 65-minute drive to Susitna Bar and Grill. The scenic drive through the autumn mountains with a dusting of snow was almost as good as the food. The oysters and fried rice were absolute perfection. Have you been? What's your must-order? . . #AlaskaEats #SusitnaBarAndGrill #Alaskafoodie #foodie #oysters

First time eating here and won't be the last. Everything is fresh made. They're in the process of changing the name so it's a little confusing but they're easy to find on the side of the Parks Highway. Pass Little Miller's and 3 Bears headed out of Wasilla. The driveway is on the right. Look for the boats in the yard. The yellow curry oysters are really good and made using oysters shipped in from Ketchikan at the beginning of the week. The sweet chili sauce and crab rangoon is a good starter. Not too heavy and not so many that you don't have room for dinner. We had the teriyaki chicken and the Mongolian beef. Both are safe options for first timers, (having never been here we wanted to test dishes that are easy but can be messed up if they just didn't have good recipes,) but both were really good. The teriyaki sauce is a homemade Thai version that's not as syrupy and thick as Japanese teriyaki tends to be. The Mongolian beef isn't too salty and it's not too sweet so it's a very nice balance of taste. The owners are super nice and made it a point to come say hi to their guests but the Mrs is the cook so she went back to the kitchen as quick as she came out. Prices are fair for the dishes served. I've already decided to have the curry seafood dish next time.

Who would have thought that the best Thai food in Southcentral Alaska was hidden just south of Willow on the Parks Highway? We didn't know what to expect when we rolled in for lunch, but the smell coming from the kitchen convinced us we were on the right track. You can sit at the kitchen counter, in the main dining room, outdoor at a picnic table or back in the bar. We opted for bar seating and decided to start things off with a homemade Bloody Mary. Strong showing. Next time I plan to order the spicy ginger margarita. My friend and I shared a dozen oysters split between the Black Sauce and Tom Yum. They were as good as they look in the picture-- the former had a complex, rich flavor profile with just enough kick, and the latter were a beautiful combination of two of my favorite things: Tom Yum soup and delicious Alaskan oysters. I probably could have made a meal of oysters and beer, but was glad we pressed on. The shrimp curry stir fry special arrived with a healthy portion of large prawns served in a rich curry broth. The shrimp were cooked perfectly-- just translucent. We also had the fried frogs legs, beautifully done with mixed vegetables and rice. This should be a required meal stop for any fan of Thai food driving the Parks Highway.

By far the best Thai food I've ever had in my life. My friend says it's the best Thai food he's ever had, and he's been to Thailand many times. The dumplings were obviously made fresh that day and not frozen. The sauces were incredibly intelligent and artistic and perfectly balanced. Obviously the chef has an exquisite palate and the highest standards possible for her food. We sat outside in the sunshine and looked at the view. What a magnificent day that keeps returning to my mind with beautiful memories! Out of respect for these beautiful people, I am going to give my very honest opinion here. I have been a restaurant server for ten years, in many different kinds of restaurants, including fine dining. We had to wait a long time for our order to be taken. We had to get up and ask for napkins and drink refills. We were served our food with no silverware and no napkins. The picnic table had old food in its grooves. Very easy to clean and disinfect, but it wasn't. I'm seeing that this problem with table service is statewide right now. Everywhere I go, the service is just not even trying. In spite of the poor skill sets of all servers in this state, this particular place was full of love and kindness and I loved all of them! I will certainly go back. The atmosphere was classic, rustic Alaskana, with regular rotating local musicians showing up to play in the corner. ...

This was our first time visiting this restaurant. I must say the whole thing was AMAZING! I love the homey atmosphere. There is outdoor dining. There was a two-man group playing music, and they weren't so loud that you couldn't hear the people you're dining with, but they provided a wonderful background music! (I think they were called the Two Tones?). As far as the food goes...oh wow...OMG! My friend likes spicy (the hotter the better). Me, I'm a wimp, but I love spicy that's hot enough without burning a hole in my tongue. There are dishes for those of the cast-iron tongue, and the wimps like me. He got the drunken noodles (I tasted them), and they were pronounced by both of us as outstanding! I got one of the curries and it was wonderful! I even tried the black sauce...just enough to know the flavor was absolutely wonderful, but it was too hot for me (so I got the sweet chili sauce). The staff were friendly and professional and moving fast since the restaurant was packed. Of course, when we walked in the door at about 6:30pm, they were already sold out of the specials in appetizers and entrees! That right there is a very good sign of a great establishment. The owner is very nice and checked in with us to make sure everything was to our satisfaction. I really can't wait to go back and try other things on the menu. This will require several visits...what...
