Tell me I came on a bad night, because I was embarrassed that I brought two friends from out of state here on this Friday night.
In our case, we signed in at 7:10, and yes it was busy. I asked how long of a wait, didn't get an answer, so asked if it was maybe an hour or less. I got an acknowledgement of that, but she didn't seem too sure. We waited outside for a bit, came back in and was able to get a waiting table in the bar area. Went to the bar, bought a round of drinks and waited.
At 8:00, it looked like several parties that were there before and after us started seeing some action, so I approached the girl with the list to see where we were in the picking order. Looked like we were next, although we realize that the order isn't a sure thing because of different sized parties and available tables. At 8:15, right after a couple at the bar gave their order, we were approached and we gave them our order. At about 8:25 that couple was seated and lots of tables seemed to be opening up. At 8:40 we were finally told to sit at table #x, which was right at the end of the bar where a group of 4 drunk people were standing and drinking shots and being very loud, obnoxious, and throwing F-bombs around. By this time there were several other tables that had opened up.
Once we sat down, we each had a 10 oz glass of water in front of us and were told that the appetizer should be out shortly. That was the extent of the table service we received. We weren't asked if we wanted anything else to drink or directed to get it from the bar if that's what you're supposed to do here. At about 8:50, we received the appetizer (at least it was hot) and a couple of minutes later we got our salads.
All the while, the obnoxious 4-some was still at it, about 6 feet away from us. The server finally then did come by again and we complained a bit but expected them to leave soon because they were told that their table was ready. They finally sat down at a table in the opposite corner of the room, but well within earshot from everyone dining in that room. Soon after, a couple with a young boy were inexplicably seated next to them. The group still kept at it being loud and spewing foul language, not giving a crap about anyone else, and everyone in the room were giving them dirty looks. A complaint was given again, but no action was taken by anyone working there.
FINALLY, at 9:03 we received our main dishes!!! Almost 2 hours after we got there. The food was very good, but by then we had run out of patience AND water. We finally flagged down a different server (the young pleasant one), where she offered to get and leave us a pitcher of water. By 9:30, we were out of there and lodged some complaints to whoever was left there while we paid our bill at the bar. The three other parties that were in the room also complained on their way out, about that loud drunk group, that no one working there did anything about.
Regardless, we still left a 20% tip. Hopefully, some of it goes to the cook(s), who deserved it more than anyone else there, for this night anyway. Overall they had terrible service and...
Read moreExcellent Hospitality - Marge was great - returned my phone call immediately when I called to make reservations, yes - they do accept reservations and YES, they do accept credit cards - good to know. Thank you Kropps - Best Perch EVER. OMG. WOW. We found Kropp's in our copy of Wisconsin Supper Clubs by Ron Faiola - are we glad we did. Marge and her daughters welcomed us like family when we arrived. Tom the bartender was friendly and helped get us caught up on the football scores, while serving up some fine Old Fashioned. You get your menus at the bar, place your order and when your table and dinner is ready, you head in to your table. Charming and eclectic dining rooms housed in a historic tavern and lodging establishment that dates back to 1904 - our waitress was simply wonderful, she has been working there for 50+ years. Perch. Perch with the bones. Both are spectacular - closest to having a Canadian Shorelunch fried on the banks of a remote Canadian lake, that you'll ever have in a restaurant. Stop by Kropp's Supper Club the next time you are near Green Bay and give the Perch a try, I'd like to know what you think. I believe you'll agree -...
Read moreThis was our first time here and we had heard good things about it. Restaurant is in an old house and has the dining rooms still separated like rooms in a house so very cozy. I had the fried cod with hash browns. Cod was a little greasy but very tender and flakey. Hash browns had the nice dark crisp on the outside but almost mush inside. A little off-putting. My husband ordered the fisherman's plate, comes with shrimp, scallops, perch and frog legs. He told them to hold the frog legs as he wasn't feeling adventurous. He said shrimp and perch we're both very good but three out of his six scallops were still raw in the middle. Our son had the gourmet fried shrimp and a baked potato. Can't mess up a baked potato and he thought the shrimp was also very good. With an hour and ten minute wait, a packed bar area, and snow coming down, we thought, overall, a solid three. We're putting it on our list of good fish places to eat on a...
