Taqueria Bar La Penca — Restaurant in Hudson

Timing is everything!! When I arrived and saw I was the only one I confidently sat in a booth. I didn’t know what to expect, but knew I was hungry for fajitas. I ordered the Fajitas Texanas while enjoying the chips and homemade salsa. The place was well kept and had a feel like a family-owned restaurant. The service was professional, prompt and friendly. I like patronizing small businesses and had hoped this place would “make it”. No later than my fajitas came out the place began to fill up. Every table was full in a matter of seconds and chairs had to be rearranged to seat some parties. Well, more than likely them “making it” isn’t going to be an issue (See pic). Seems I came at just the right time! I like to patronize small businesses and at first I had hoped this one would last, but seeing and experiencing the loads of people coming in and enjoying themselves, it was pretty clear they had been there before and know a good restaurant when they see one. I...

Not a bad Mexican place. Service was very good and the chips were top notch. The salsa was real good too.

Only complaint would be the vent fan above the entrance was sucking the kitchen fryer smell into the dining area so after leaving I stunk worse than eating at Taco Bell on a packed day. Hopefully they don’t usually run that fan or can figure out a way to keep the smells from getting into the dining area.

While the dining area is small it is arranged pretty good to provide maximum occupancy. Parking wasn’t a problem.

The chicken quesadilla tasted good. I had the burrito that has a bunch of stuff in it but there was something odd with the ground beef (just an odd taste like it wasn’t drained well enough or maybe it’s just cheap ground beef). Overall it was good but I’ve had better tasting ground beef at other Mexican restaurants...

I just had the absolute best asada tacos I've ever had. The tamale was also outstanding. The masa was very smooth, bordering on creamy, but still held an al dente feel characteristic of being perfectly timed in the broth. It was simply amazing.

Now let's talk about the salsa...

Fresh. Bright. DIFFERENT. I could tell immediately that this salsa was made with fresh herbs, and the flavor of the FRESH oregano comes through to perfectly balance with the cilantro. It is unique and wonderful.

This place is a real gem with friendly staff and excellent food. This is going to be our go-to place from now on for Mexican food. I can't wait to try the other items...
