Totally Overrated . They call themselves fine dining but service etiquette and food quality are mediocre at best. The host a French lady offered us pumpkin soup as special of the night which we ordered to then come back minutes later saying they were out. The asparagus appetizer was just ok and the French onion soup was blah. Both of us had the veal chop as main course. Both to be Medium Well and for one with mushroom sauce on the side. Both were served with sauce on top and more than half of the size of each veal chops was completely raw . Unquestionably Rear. When the host came to check on us I showed it to her and the reply was : The chef can cook it more (!). She didn't offer apologies. We declined because we ate the side veggies instead. We didn't want further interruptions in our conversation. Note that the restaurant was almost empty so no excuses on such a huge mistake. Not checking the meat temperature on a bone in steak is just unacceptable. Later she offered a comp dessert which we declined so she offered to comp our glasses of wine. Appreciated but unfortunately to enhance her body language she placed the palm of her hands on the rim of both glasses (!?) I mean there was actual physical contact. Whatever... Additionally the ambience is plain hotel like, with carpet floor and lights way too high. The table set up is sad with a plain white square sort of paper/cloth placemat good for a pizzeria. No butter knife so I had to use the same knife to eat the appetizer. French restaurants are famous for impeccable service. Not here. The busboy instead of pouring the bottle of water leaving the glasses on the table, will lift and bring them to himself putting his fingers close to the rim like if we were in a cheap diner when they pour splashing water from a pitcher full of ice. A waitress came multiple times at our table asking if she could take the plates while were were still eating the appetizers and then the same with the main course. We were just eating slowly and food was in the plates. The etiquette says the table can be cleared only when all guests are finished and clearly we were not as indicated by the position of our silverware. With a table of two in an almost empty restaurant why rushing? It simply means being clueless on how to work around a table.....
Read moreThis is an edited review. Third edit: On the Beach Club and Terrace restaurant - What a sudden remarkable change in service friendliness. We were received with a smile and waited-on with a smile. Food still took almost an hour to prepare, but tasteful and served with a smile. Thank you for that. Please bring it on more.
Second edit: Since the Beach Club Bar and Terrace is operated by Chez Daniel, and there is no other place they allow you to review, I will do it here. Here are an eldery woman receiving guests. With German-like sterness, she makes one rude, inhospitable woman. One who should never have ventured in the hospitality industry. I torture myself coming here, because they occupy a scenic spot. And I wish the tranquillity of the surroundings ease my pains visiting this place. Limited menu, unfriendly staff. You will wait 30-40 before they take your order. You will wait 45min-1hr before you are served any dish. Real pain in the rear!!!
Chez Daniel, the other restaurant is good in some sense. Yet, to live up to the French etiquette, there must be a marriage between good prestine food and eloquence. The food was good and we enjoyed particularly the French Onion Soup. The restaurant area is better than MOST other Puerto Rican eateries (where it seems acceptable to erect a shack and pass it of as a 'restaurant'), yet, even here Chez Daniel suffers. The building is fine, but the interior is a thoughless hap dasery table arrangement. But, in Puerto Rico, it is the better...
Read moreDon't Use the Website to Make a Reservation! We enjoyed our Mother's Day Brunch so much that we decided to go back for Father's Day. After trying to call several times with no answer, I went to the website. There I found a chat bot who seemed to take our reservation for 3pm. It confirmed the reservation and we thought we were set.
We showed up on time and the manager told us we did not have a reservation. She asked Chef if they could fit us in (there were only 2 of us), but she came back saying they were overbooked and could not accommodate us. They were completely unapologetic about the website not working, they acted like we should have known it did not work. We were super disappointed. I am a type 2 diabetic and vegetarian, so the variety of food served at the brunch was very appealing to me.
They recommended we go to the restaurant next door at the Golf Club. The menu there had nothing either of us wanted, so on the recommendation of one of the staff we headed over to the Plaza where we found Augustina, an Argentinian Steak and Pasta restaurant. This turned out to be a Godsend.
The staff was super friendly, and the food was amazing! The views were also spectacular. I had the Eggplant Parm and the hubby had a beautiful NY Strip steak cooked to perfection. We were so happy that we were turned away at Chez Daniel, as now we have another new...
