Last weekend we had an event to attend at The Dixie. Since we were coming from a couple of towns north, I called Mi Pueblito to inquire if they had beer and margaritas (yes, to the beer, no to the margaritas), and most importantly, if they served carnitas. I was told that they do serve carnitas. Carnitas are fried pork chunks, that are large, tender pieces of pork, with a touch of adobo seasoning that have a lovely, golden brown, crispy exterior. We were looking forward to a great dinner. We started with the Maria's Dip, which was tasty, if not predictable - with a prepared, commercial pour-on cheese over the sausage (unknown whether that was chorizo) and jalapenos. Then the carnitas arrived. It was a pile of small diced, grey mystery meat that had been braised or boiled. It reminded me of menudo - Mexican stew with tripe. And, um no thank you. I asked for them to take the plate back, and looked at the menu again. I asked about the carne asada, and whether it was skirt steak, and I was assured that it was. That too was very disappointing - chuck steak at best, pounded shoe leather thin, placed on a pile of onions (I had passed on the green peppers) that obviously had been precooked, and had sat on the stove for hours becoming an onion slush. The flavor of the "steak" was fine, but was as tough as the aforementioned shoe leather. 80% of it came home with me for my dogs. My husband had ordered a chimichanga which was highly unusual for him. Nice on the outside, scant meat, and undercooked, doughy interior. On the plus side - the staff is very sweet and attentive, and the beer was cold - if you ask for a mug, you are given a child's glass cowboy boot mug, which was a bit strange to say the least. Por favor, si usted es el propietario, le pido que responda para explicar posiblemente la debacle culinaria. Gracias.Por favor, si usted es el propietario, ¿respondería a esto y tal vez explicaría la debacle...
Read morei have a few notes to add to this and most are good, i believe I only have one complaint
• starting off with a good point, my server was very professional and carried themself with confidence, that is something I admire among any worker in the food industry. i unfortunately don't know their name, but they were feminine presenting with beautiful tattoos done by their brother. i do wish I asked for their name now
• another high point is that all the times I've been to Mi Pueblito, my food has been a 7/10 or above. i do unfortunately have something to complain about the refried beans, but it will be my only complaint.
• i have no proof of this, but I do strongly believe that the beans are simply canned and seasoned. I'm Hispanic and I come from a long line of Hispanic cooking, and I do believe that I know how cooked refried beans taste in comparison to canned refried beans. now hear me out, that isn't necessarily a bad thing, the beans are good, I'm only complaining because I do remember a claim that they are authentic.
• on a better note, Mi Pueblito does have very nice prices. I recently ordered the "Enchiladas Diablos" and was very impressed with everything (aside from my beans, of course) being as high quality for the price of $8-9.
alright I'm tired of writing now stay...
Read moreOk first off I went there to eat tonight for the first time and the last time. I am allergic to onions so being a place I have never ate at before I make sure to ask about each dish I am interested in to see if it has onions or not. Pretty much everything did but they said they would cook me something with out onions. Ok great I think. Then I get my order and start eating it halfway through the meal I notice my lips are starting to get tingling feeling so I start digging through it low and behold something supposably cooked without onions had onions in it. Really we let them know I had food allergies and was allergic to onion and it still came out with onions in it.then when we said something all they said was oh I'm sorry. Really that is just poor service. If I would not have been able to get the reaction under control fast I would have been in trouble. Oh and still charged full price for food that made me sick. They are lucky I was not taken to hospital. Maybe they need to buy a EpiPen and see the prices of them. Very sick dissatisfied customer this was so wrong on them in...
