I used to live in Ironwood and frequented El Tarasco (formerly El Dorado when I lived there) all the time. I am from Detroit area where there is no shortage of "authentic" Mexican/Hispanic food and my wife and I always yearned to go back back to El Dorado for Mexican. I ate Mexican alot and NOTHING beat El Dorado. Nothing beat the quality of food and customer service from the cooking and wait staff at El Dorado. The food was always excellent and came out fresh and hot, unlike many of the restaurants we order from downstate. The owners and staff actually care. I don't know why the name change since I left but I heard rumors of problems the owners had with the building. Recently, my wife and I came back to town to visit her family for a bit and we decided to try El Tarasco before we left to go back home. After our dinner, I am happy to report that despite the name change, the quality of food and service was the same as we knew from when it was called El Dorado. It appears many of the excellent former wait staff and cooks are still there too. It's nice to see the area get some variety in food and culture. If you go there, try one of my favorites, the Philly Cheese Steak Burrito. Delicious steak, peppers, and onions, and mushrooms wrapped in a burrito covered in warm delicious white cheese. Can't recommend El Tarasco...
Read moreI’m not a fan of beans or corn flour so I don’t usually go to Mexican places but I saw good reviews about this, and was also pleasantly surprised to find it in a small WI/MI town. I got the pollo encremado which was good. On the border of being too heavy but still light enough to not tip the scale on the cream. The chicken is well cooked, and the taste is good. The flan I got for dessert was too sweet, and I’m not typically sensitive to sweet stuff. But the custard being sweet plus sweet caramel plus whipped cream on top made it too sweet and heavy, so I wouldn’t really recommend that unless you have 2 ppl sharing both with a sweet tooth. Service was good, food got out fast, and I wasn’t left alone for too long. Overall good place to come eat that isn’t.. you know, the basic menu around these parts of the country. There’s a small “service charge” on the bill—not sure what that’s about—but I think it’s actually meant to be a credit card use fee, since it’s “discounted”...
Read moreMy husband and daughter ate at Tarasco several years ago and had good memories of their meal. Maybe they were having an off night last night but our experience wasn’t great. Food was just ok once it arrived. Service was slow, aloof, and unfriendly. While we did get seated immediately, we then had to wave down our server to get him to take our order and then again to get a box for our leftovers. He never checked in to see if we needed another drink and ignored us for the rest of the meal — we had to walk over to the guy sitting in front of a computer and point at our table in order to pay, as did most other customers. Fox News was blaring on the TV. We should’ve taken the hint when we walked in and heard a family with small children say “let’s just get our food to go and get...
