Not at all happy with the service. Over 45 min for a couple chicken sandwiches that were ordered for take out, ended up giving us the wrong order, messed up a dietary request then had to go back to return food to get refund for meal that would have made me sick because of obvious cross contamination (requested gf food and it was heavily cross contaminated by batter in takeout box)
Long version of story: Walked into the pub at aprox 9:30pm. There is a hostess stand at the front door. My husband and I stood there looking around , the bartender looked over but did not acknowledge us, was busy chatting with the other service staff. We grabbed our own menus and sat on a couch in the lounge area. Service staff were around, no one acknowledged us or asked if we needed help. It was not busy in the pub and there was one person sitting at the bar. We wanted to order takeout so we walked to the bar to order. I can not eat gluten and asked the bartender many questions and she seemed sure about her answers to my dietary questions and said she would make a note to the kitchen. I made it clear several times to tell her gluten ingredients will make me sick! I specifically asked if the fries were battered and she said no. I asked again and explained any flour on them will make me sick. I explained that shared deep frier oil does not bother me because the high heat seems to lower cross contamination gluten levels to a ppm level that my system can handle but if fries are battered with anything containing gluten it will make me very ill. We wailed over 45 min for our food. Finally we were handed our food by a different server but upon my inspection it was not what we ordered (I checked the bag before leaving and caught it the bartender did not check it.) While waiting for our proper entrees I started eating the gf Tuna tartar I ordered. The bartender was too busy chatting to friends for me to ask if I needed cutlery or a napkin while still waiting the rest of our food. My husband announced loudly he would just get me cutlery and got up and walked to a service station to get it for me, the bartender just ignored it. While eating the tuna tartar (that they charged an extra $2.00 to substitute the wonton crisps for 5 cucumber slices, which were so thin they that could not hold anything on them) I asked, while still waiting for our correct food, if I could get more cucumbers because there were only 5 super thin slices, not enough for the tartar, she told me that was standard and then walked away to talk to off duty staff members who were hanging out at the bar. Finally our food came out and I was told that the fries had a seasoning on them so the kitchen packed them separately from my meal. I asked the bartender again if the fries had a flour batter and she proceeded to say it was a seasoning, so I asked does it have flour in it and she finally said yes. I told her I can not eat it as it will make me sick (as i explained to her multiple times before I ordered) and then she said they were making me sweet potato fries instead. So now We weâre waiting again for food. Finally got our food and left. Got back to my vrbo and when I open my meal that was marked gf I discovered a fry and a bunch of fry crumbs in the box! I had to return to the pub and ask for a refund. I was so upset because all they did was open the check and take that meal off. My husband said he wanted to have the tip removed because of the bartenders lack of attentiveness, listening and overall carelessness that could have made me sick. They handed me the updated receipt for the refunded sandwich. All the bartender asked was âare you upset?â In which I replied âyes!â My husband request to get the tip refunded fell on deaf ears! Excuses were made about the kitchen being swamped but it was the bartenders overall apathetic demeanour that was frustrating! I have worked many years in the service industry pubs-fine dinning and how they handled this situation is a joke. Customer safety and satisfaction was in no way taken seriously! Extremely...
Read moreSorry for this long review, but I want to be accurate. | My son was getting married in Vermont. We wanted to have a meet and greet, to get the wedding weekend started. We approached Jean and booked the HydeAway over 1 year in advance because they were the only venue that would not charge us for the space, and they would stay open to the public. I felt it was Perfect for both parties ( win/win) We informed Jean at our first meeting that we could have over 100 guests, and she assured us it would not be a problem| After the first meeting communication with Jean was very poor, and very frustrating. Sometimes it would take her a month to answer a simple question. I have all the emails I sent her and her responses did not go to my spam folder as she inferred. The emails were just not answered. | 1 week before our event I finally lost my patience and unfortunately my frustration was taken out on someone when I tried to call and speak to Jean. I apologized over and over to this young woman, who I kept telling her it was not her fault, and told her how frustrated I was. I finally spoke to Jean after sending more emails and making more phone calls. We expected over 100 guests that night.|I confirmed with Jean our arrival time of 8 PM a few days before. She responded back âWe are all set. See you Fridayâ Many of my out of town guests were traveling over 7 hours, and I was concerned they would arrive to Vermont tired and hungry. I wanted to make sure the food was out for them. I arrived at 7:45 and nothing was set up, nor was there any food out. I ordered a taco bar, 20 dz wings, along with cookies and brownies for 75 guests. This was about $1000 worth of food. |I started searching for Jean inside and out. I finally found her and introduced myself. She informed me they would start to put out the food slowly. It was now after 8 PM. She put out a tray of cookies. Cookies!!! Really? My guests are hungry!! Finally she started putting out the taco bar. Wings came out a dz or two at a time. I expected a tray of 20 dz wings, or at least 10 dz to start. I couldnât even tell if we even got the 20 dz wings we ordered! I had so many guests inform me how rude some of the bar tenders and some of the staff were. One of my guests asked a female bartender what kind of bourbon they offered. She pointed to the bottles (or a sign) My guest could not read from so far away, and informed the bar tender this, but she just walked away without even serving her. 2 other guests were reprimanded for standing in the wrong place by the bar. Guests were told rudely they could not sit in certain places. Staff should be taught to communicate kindly. I understand the restaurant is open serving dinner as per our agreement. Many of my guests were having dinner before as well. Some of the staff was kind and helpful. Thank you! We had many interactions with several other inns, restaurants and businesses in Waitsfield such as Mad Taco, Lareau Farms, Tucker Hill Inn, White Horse Inn and Sugarbush during the weekend, and did not have any issues except with this place. |Many of the other local guests having dinner while we were at Hyde Away were very sweet, and offered their Congratulations, and we did have some very nice interactions with some of the other guests at the bar and the restaurant. We were a large group ( over 100) but we were not rowdy or disrespectful in any way. Unfortunately because of my bad experience I cannot recommend this...
Read moreWe stayed in M3 room over the Christmas weekend. At $190/night the place is terribly overpriced for what you get. Hotel is very dated and seems more of a business on the side than anything else. If you are thinking of staying there â DONâT. Just to give you an idea of the state of the hotel: Door knob from the bathroom door just fall off the first time we touched it. Thermostat was broken. Room temperature did not align with the settings on it. After a few attempts we realized that setting the dial to 60F gives ~75F indoor temperature. Hot water was extremely unreliable. I tried showering on two days around 8-9 PM and on both days the water temperature was fluctuating back-and-forth from ice cold to boiling hot without turning the knob. So, I had to tweak the know all the time and I had to jump out of the water when it was getting too cold or too hot. On the second day I also was âluckyâ enough to see the water turn the color of strong coffee while I was starting to shower. That was quite disgusting. I have never seen that before in a hotel. Sound-proofing was non-existent. Room that we stayed in was attached to the main tavern building and we could hear everything that was happening inside the tavern from our room. Tavern was open until 10 PM (later on some days) and the doors keep banging well past that. Good luck trying to get some sleep.
On top of those major items, there were a few minor ones. Pillows on the bed were very thin and uncomfortable. If you are a side-sleeper, your neck would hurt after sleeping on them. Our room has also never been cleaned even though we stayed for two nights.
Hotel also offered free breakfast. And the food, unlike the hotel itself, was good. The problem was more on the side of timing. Breakfast starts at 7:30 AM and the fastest we could be done (between ordering, waiting for food, and eating) was 8:10 AM. Lifts open at 8, so the breakfast is definitely not geared towards the skiers.
Please avoid this BnB at all costs. You will not be able to get good sleep or shower. At least if you are staying in any rooms directly attached to the main tavern building (which is most of the rooms). It is absolutely not worth the money and you would be better off staying...
