I am Chicago born and raised and former resident for 50+ years and know what good Chicago thin crust tavern pizza is. Iāve had best.
The only one that even compares to it in Lake County IL and is actually better is Ron and Pats in Antioch Il. The crust is thin and crispy, the sauce has just the right amount of seasoning and never bland, the cheese and sausage is generous and top quality.
I canāt tell you enough about the best pizza I ever had or Serena the owner who works 7 days a week to maintain quality and consistency. She has added a cauliflower crust to her menu so now my diabetic granddaughter who is lactose intolerant can enjoy it too. Itās a family favorite.
I also have to mention the meatball sandwich which I had for lunch this week. It was delicious and I now have a new favorite lunchtime sandwich. Itās as good as the pizza!
Never thought I would be able to get quality Chicago tavern style pizza in Lake County but I was wrong and glad I found Ron...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe pizza was delicious! I ordered for takeout. Very happy to see vegan cheese and gluten free crust options! I had to remove 1 star from service because one pizza did take a very long time to cook, but that was because I had ordered the double decker. The employees in the restaurant were extremely apologetic and I can tell the long wait was something they do not hold to their normal standards. Other pizza places could act nonchalant about the long wait, but the attitude here tells me that they really do care! If the employees had a different attitude about the long wait I would have certainly docked more stars. I would suggest to order the standard crust thickness if time is an issue. I didn't get an opportunity to try the stuffed pizza but I would imagine the stuffed pizza would take just as long as the double...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI love the look, and vibe with the classic cars, trucks, and the whole Ron Jon vibe. The pizza was good but I feel like the sauce could use a little more of something. Would I eat here again? Yes probably but be aware that it's not made for a lot of eat ins. We had 3 people and ended up moving to the high top because a family of 4 or 5 came in and were never going to fit at the high top, so we offered our table and they doubled up with the only other available table. I think there were 3 small tables, the high top and a seat or two at a counter. It's definitely popular and most people ordered, picked up and left. This is not a complaint, just an advisory that if you come in with 6,7, 10 people, it's gonna...
