Very cleanstore everyone who helped was vextremely friendly and helpful, there is a type of grill ready chicken we really like, but couldn't find it in the meat case so we asked the guy behind the meat counter about, offered to season some and package it up, we had more shopping to do so said we would come back to pick it up once we are finished shopping and we moved on to another part of the store before long the meat man came rushing over to our cart and handed my husband the package of meat we requested, so not only did he offer to season the chicken for us, but he hand delivered it too, we were unable to find a certain type of caffine free diet Pepsi, so my husband asked the dr. pepper guy about it which made me cringe because, I know they are not employees of the store, simply vendors who stock their own displays but Dr. pepper offered to check with the Pepsi guy who was in back at the time, unfortunately, Mr. Pepsi didn't have it, but I was impressed that a person from the competitor took the extra step to assist us, we had an event the next day I called in a very large order of crossaints and asked to have them sliced to be used as a sandwich bun luckily they had the amount made up that we needed and had them sliced before we got to the store to pick up, finally we needed to order a couple balloon boquets for the party the next day, I was very indecisive at the floral counter in exactly what we want to add to the mylar balloons, but the woman waiting on me was very patient, as I was walking out the store, I hear ma'am ma'am behind me and when I turn to see if someone was trying to get my attention, it was the florist, letting me know that the package I bought actually allowed for two more mylar balloons, so we quickly discussed what I want added I love that two employees from different departments tracked us down to be...
Read moreThe N. Dodge HyVee was newly constructed in 2015 and completed in 2016. The improvements are notable.
The bakery and the produce area are the sectors that received the most attention. The NY Salt Rye, sourdough, and jalapeño cheddar bread are favorites. Come on @ 7pm for 1/2 price bread before they throw it out. Pretend like you don’t know that’s a thing, okay?
The produce selection is relatively diverse; fruits are more expensive than vegetables, but, as is most often the case, cheaper than trash food in plastic. Mushrooms, broccoli, bulk carrots, squash, parsley, and greenhouse-grown tomatoes (Canada and Minnesota) are of particular note. Kale, incomprehensibly, is often in great shape 10pm or later. No idea.
Drawbacks—bulk section grim, punctuated by Mark Wahlberg diet propaganda that makes his oeuvre recede further into disappearance.
Another thing: Night shopping here is superb. R. is great to chat with, and if you’re looking for a necessary Iowa City trip, make a late night HyVee trip.
Many competent employees. Newspapers for sale between the florist corner and tobacco stand. Redemption center for recyclables. Post office....
Read moreI mean, it's Hyvee. A staple of Iowa. They offer a lot of products, and decent produce. I would rate them higher but they are politically unethical. My example isn't the only, but do you remember when they had the political cartoonist fired over a drawing that empathized with the displacement of poor people as Hyvee greatly expanded the Coralville location? I'm not sure how it ever got published in the first place considering the level of $ hyvee feeds to the local papers in ad revenue...which litters my front lawn with garbage I'm only throwing away. And that happens a lot. So many 15 page ad packets that simply hit the recycling bin without being read. It's a college town, so we can just imagine not much of it actually gets recycled.
The other thing that I don't like is that they are so fiercely competitive that they've pushed out almost every other grocer in town. I know that's the American way, but I really miss Lucky's. This town is...
