Short's Burgers Eastside — Restaurant in Iowa City

Last night, I ordered dinner for my daughters and I. I used the Chomp app for delivery. For myself, I ordered plain chicken wings. When we got the food, I was surprised to find that Short's wrote a note on my styrofoam container. It said, "So sorry, we ran out of chicken wings." with a "cute" little frowny face after it. Short's was out of wings, but instead of contacting chomp so Chomp could have me make a substitute or ask for a partial refund (Like other establishments have done in the past), they thought it would be acceptable to just make an order of chicken strips and fries and have those sent to me instead. I contacted Chomp. Chomp apologized, adding that it was unacceptable. They contacted Short's. Short's informed them that they weren't going to give me a refund. So, Short's forced me to accept food that I did not order (and would not eat) and then refused to make it right. My family and I were regular customers at Short's, but I will never eat there again. We haven’t been to Shorts since pre-Covid, so we were excited to get back there as we have always really liked it. We ordered our drinks. The soda tasted flat. One of the individuals with us ordered an appetizer. After some time, we asked about the appetizer and she said it would be coming out. A couple minutes later, all of our food was brought out, with the appetizer being the last thing to be brought out. Most of the burgers are $12-$14 (including a plain cheeseburger). It seemed that burgers consisted more of a bun than an actual burger, would have been better with a smaller bun. The fries weren’t even that good. Another individual in our group ordered a wrap. Wings were tasty if a bit overcooked on the edges, the Short's sauce (their iconic sauce) was interesting to say the least - BBQ sauce with a hint of some kind of hot sauce mixed in, sweet and mildly spicy, I quite liked it! The burgers are excellent, one of the few places I've seen that can do a medium or medium-well properly (mine was medium, outside was nicely seared but the center still a modest red, the meat very juicy), and the fries were perfectly done. A bit overpriced for the type of fare but it's expected for the style of place, you go more for the atmosphere with friends. They have a nice short selection of IPAs and I found one that sorted me nicely.. Theiendly and expedient staff ensure a nice evening out.
