Island Grill — Restaurant in Ira Township

Our latest (and probably last) visit here was a huge disappointment. We know to expect a wait when visiting most of the waterfront restaurants but the disappointment went beyond just the wait. We arrived around 6:45 pm on a Saturday and were told at the hostess stand to expect an 1 - 1 1/2 hour wait for food- fine, we expected as much and figured we would enjoy some drinks and water view while we wait for our food. Our waitress was prompt bringing our drinks as well as coming back to check on us and getting refills, but that’s the only thing that went right and it went downhill from there… Our food actually took over 2 hours to arrive and it was mediocre, at best. Two of us ordered the fried perch dinner and the other two ordered cheeseburgers. The food was barely warm, they forgot the coleslaw for both fish dinners (when we inquired they finally brought out one coleslaw but not the other) the burgers were way overcooked, they forgot to add bacon to one of them (but we were charged for it) and the fries were cold and stale tasting. To add insult to injury, they were out of tartar sauce, ranch dressing and blue cheese dressing (in my opinion, tartar sauce is a must when ordering fried fish). Oh, and it gets better because if you would like lettuce, onion, tomato or pickle on your burger you will be charged $.50 for each item (which is disclosed on the menu) and if you’d like a lime in your cocktail you will also be charged $.25 for that, which we were unaware of- seriously, we are charging for a lime wedge now? Nope, there are so many other dining options in the area where we can get better service and tastier food (and free lime wedges in...

The Island grill has been a frequent destination for us and our friends by both land and water since it's opening. The staff has always been nothing short of kind, courteous and pleasant. The food has always been exactly what we would expect. On September 12th we visited and upon approaching the hostess stand we were informed that the menu was limited as it was their last day for the season. We didn't mind as we enjoy the view and the staff. Being the last day of operations I asked the older lady at the stand if Larry was in attendance. She was quite abrupt and stern when she immediately responded, "Larry doesn't have anything to do with this place! The elders run the show here!" I was hardly looking for a confrontation nor was I of the belief that Larry "ran" anything there. I simply thought that perhaps it being the last day Larry may have been in attendance to celebrate (there was quite a few staff members wearing hats with Larry's last name on them!). We ordered for three and despite being extremely short staffed Tiffany and one waitress and a food runner made everything just perfect at the expense of literally running the whole time! I do have to say that our ordering for three which amounted to, a slider order, a chili dog order and another slider order and five rum runners (standard ones/not "enhanced") Amounted to $97! While the chili dogs were perfect, three of the sliders were actually the size of Reese's peanut butter cups on full size hamburger buns (the fourth one was a "wee" bit larger but hardly by much). I normally don’t leave reviews, but I wanted to leave some feedback regarding the service we had today. We arrived at 12pm and it was nearly empty. They gave us the menu but when it came time to order they told us They had a very limited menu for the day. We had to quickly change our orders to what was on the limited menu.

Our table ordered, a pizza, a kids meal, and 2 of the lobster rolls on special. About 30 minutes later, the pizza and kids meal came out and only then did they tell us that the lobster roll wouldn’t be served until 4pm. We re-ordered and it took another 45 minutes for our food to come. By that point, half our party was totally done eating.

At one point the manager asked us how everything was and we told him what was going on, and nothing changed or was expedited even though the server assured us it would be. I tend to be an incredibly patient person when it comes to the service industry having worked in food service myself, but the nonchalant attitude over repeated errors will absolutely not make a repeat customer of me nor would I recommend it to anyone. This is super disappointing because the atmosphere is so fun and it really would be a great hangout.
