My apologies straight away, but this was the worst bbq I have ever had. Before ordering, i asked when the brisket was made, and it was said to be from the previous day. So I went with pulled pork and ribs. I took a strand of the pork, and chewed, and chewed, and chewed. Texture was like gum. It was also drenched in sauce, meaning either they were hiding the flavor of the pork, and/or the fact it was days old. Regardless, two bites that was it. I asked the waitress what smoke they used to flavor, and the answer was wood. Not sure how your staff does not know if hickory, oak, apple, etc. But I truly believed it could have come from any tree after I bit into the ribs. The after taste was awful. The ribs were not pulled from the bone, meaning they were undercooked. I couldn't taste any rub, and they ladled a ton of sauce on it. Again, hiding something. The texture was terrible, and I asked if they boiled the ribs. They said no, but they use a steam table. Maybe to freshen up days old meat? I don't know, but I do know it was terrible. No pork flavor, couldn't taste any rub, it was all sauce, and wasn't smoked right. Not to mention days old. The fries weren't cooked through, but the potato salad and slaw were fine. Maybe it was a bad day, i dont know. I guess at the very least it gave my wife and I a fun food story to talk about when...

Stopped at Doan's Bones Barbecue to dine with the Granddaughters after a damp visit to Shaver’s Creek Environmental Center this past weekend. Very kid friendly, relaxed atmosphere and wait staff was very comfortable with active and talkative children. Large, interesting BBQ menu, offering something for everyone. The youngest enjoyed her lemonade, large glasses of ice water were appreciated by the rest of us. The oldest Granddaughter and I had chocolate milkshakes that were pretty standard. The girls both had the chicken tender baskets, which they liked, Bruce had the Brisket with fries and Mac n Cheese, he said the brisket was dry but the macaroni and cheese was good. The French Fries didn’t look tempting. I prefer mine to be fresh cut, and more brown than beige. I had the nachos with pulled pork, cheese, and baked beans. The tortilla chips were nice and crunchy, and the pulled pork and baked beans were so tasty, I was willing to overlook the cheez wiz type cheese product used. Would certainly recommend this dish, super tasty. Serving sizes were ample, everyone except Hubby had enough to take home another meal’s portion. Restrooms could use a deep cleaning, but I would go back...

We had wings with Mild sauce and quesadilla. The mild sauce was very tomato-based, and plenty spicy -- I think it was loads of black or white pepper. We ordered the "Mild," because she has a stomach-sensitivity to any pepper (black, white, green/yellow/red bell, and any of the hotter peppers), so when the Mild turned out real spicy, it was a frustration.

I told her I'd lick the sauce off her wings, but she wasn't interested in taking me up on that. Besides, even though I'm ok with "hot," licking the heat off her wings would have overloaded even my tongue. Mild?

The chicken in the quesadilla was smoked and delicious. But the chicken was also extra-chewy.

2 PM Sunday afternoon, and the restaurant was filled, so Doan's has a following. Rumor has it that there are long lines on football weekends.

Their food is packed with flavor. Next time, I'm getting a juicy hamburger.

Two dishes, two hot drinks, and tip, came out to a few dollars over $40 for two of us, same as everywhere we...

The service is a bit slow. The servers are polite. The wings are exceptional ,well cooked with their own spicy sauce. Try the burnt bones sauce it is very hot and it has an amazing aroma. The ribs are a great choice. Correctly smoked, with the right amount of bbq sauce they are mouth watering. The restaurant is well worth the drive. Interestingly, the quality of the meals has been getting better with every visit. I usually visit at late noon. One of the best restaurants in the area.
