A & S International Food — Restaurant in Jackson

This five star review isnt for the atmosphere, or ambience . Its 100% about the food . I've been looking for a place like this , in Jackson TN , for some time now , but Google assured me , there were none closer than Memphis. Well , a little more scrolling , further and further down, uncovered A&S , a grocery store and cafe , with all the things I had been unable to find , spices , flat breads , meats , to make our favorite Mediterranean foods . Not only that , but they prepared some of the best made Mediterranean dishes I've had in many years . We frequently eat at a Greek place in El Paso , rated #1 in a city full of excellent restaurants,but the stuffed grape leaves here , AND the Gyros , are not only better, but among the very best we've eaten anyway in the midwest/ eastern/southeastern/and western U.S. They should not be missed by anyone who loves Mediterranean Cuisine, or just loves truly excellent food , perfectly prepared . Look it's not a restaurant, it's a market that serves hot food, so don't go expecting "atmosphere". The owners and staff are wonderful, sweet people and incredible cooks. We just got the Friday braised lamb and it is succulent and luscious and damn near perfect. Falafel was crisp and hot, tzatziki good, baba ganouj smoky and flavorful. Will have to come back for gyro and hummus and dolmas. Don't know how I've missed them for so long but now that I know they're there it'll be a routine stop. If you know, you know. I feel like this place often gets overlooked as it has been here a long time and doesn't really do a lot of promotion. They are by far the best option for middle eastern food in town. Small place but the menu is good and the quality is great! We order the lamb on Fridays which is such a treat. They have a selection of frozen meats if you'd prefer to make at home. I'm not a french fry person but these have a really delicious spice blend! Baklava is made fresh by one of the shop owners and the food is always piping...
