Big Trout — Restaurant in Jay Township

Nice menu variety - have had quite a few different things, all of which were pretty good, though I have some favorites! The taco salad is awesome, especially the bowl it comes in that they make, though the last time I got it it tasted too much like fish that it wasn't nearly as enjoyable ( I assume they fried it in the same oil as their fish fries and it was older oil?) - also love the steak salad & fish fry! Their coleslaw is one of the best I've had, especially in this area. Ok....the ribs? TO DIE FOR! They are by far the best I've ever had at any restaurant/bar - they are so tender the bones fall right off (there was one time I think maybe they were cooked a bit too much simply because the bones were so tender that they splintered into tiny pieces and it was a chore separating the bones from the meat to not eat any of the splinters - but the texture and flavor of the meat itself wasn't negatively impacted). FYI - the ribs are ONLY sold on SATURDAYS, NOT SUNDAYS like they used to as it still shows on the online menus. Definitely...

We had gotten in to town looking for a place for dinner. Big Trout was recommended, so we gave it a try. Got the Marty burger and it was delicious. The owners chatted, Marty came out of the kitchen and told us stories of the business and their pride in the food they serve. They were super nice. In fact we enjoyed it so much, we went back the next night to try Marty's rib special. We were NOT disappointed. They were the best we've ever had. Nothing we had gotten was bad, all very good. We stop at the big trout quite frequently on our way to Benedette to seethe elk. I’ve never had bad service or food. Try the big trout burger if it is still on the menu. A good place for food and drink. They do have a separate small side bar with tables so still OK for families. They also have an outside deck when the weather is nice. We definitely will be back.
