Aguzao Restobar — Restaurant in Jayuya

After climbing the mountain in a 15 passenger van with our family from Ponce, we were tired and ready for a time of rest, soaking in some beautiful mountain sights, jibarito music, and a real opportunity to feel what it would be like to still have modern amenities, but feel like you are stepping back in time...and we were looking for AUTHENTIC Puerto Rican food "desde la finca", and this FOOD WAS THE BEST WE ATE THE ENTIRE TIME WE WERE IN PUERTO RICO! The young lady that waited on us was a sweetheart, un amor, and from the time we got there to the time we left, we enjoyed every moment! Thank you to Veronica and her team for making this time there so memorable with our family - my kids had never experienced Puerto Rico and not only did we enjoy the food and the sights, but the gazebo was the perfect place to reunite with family and have our kids get to know long lost extended family! The service and atmosphere are wonderful. I do have to say the mamposteado de arroz con gandules was the worst I have ever had. I could taste fish in it. Seems like there was salmon in it or something. There was no warning with regards to it in the menu. I unfortunately left all of the rice because it was not good. The biftec encebollado doesn't taste like traditional biftec. It tasted more like burger meat. The pechuga a la plancha was delicious. I enjoyed the fried food platter. I also enjoyed the coffee flan, which was unique. I enjoyed the decorations of the location and being able to have such a sweet dog patiently...

Regresé a mi querido pueblo de Jayuya no solo para reunirme con mi familia, sino también para disfrutar de las delicias que tanto extrañaba desde hace un año. Hoy fuimos a Aguzao Restobar llenos de emoción y expectativa por disfrutar de una comida deliciosa y vivir una linda experiencia. Sin embargo, nuestra emoción inicial se vio interrumpida por la bienvenida poco acogedora de una de las meseras, cuya expresión revelaba cierta molestia o incomodidad. Nos informó que para grupos de más de 6 personas era necesario hacer reservación, como si fuéramos responsables de conocer esta política del restaurante de antemano. Entiendo que quizás debimos haber buscado información del lugar antes de ir, que ciertamente lo hice después de la visita, pero la forma en que la mesera nos informó sobre esta norma no fue muy agradable y afectó nuestra experiencia inicialmente.

Esta situación nos hizo sentir mal y incómodos, al punto de considerar si debíamos quedarnos o irnos. El resto del servicio durante nuestra visita tampoco estuvo a la altura. La misma mesera simplemente nos indicó que podíamos entrar al restaurante sin guiarnos hasta nuestra mesa asignada, dejándonos a nuestra suerte para encontrarla. Además, que muchas de las opciones del menú no estaban disponibles.

Este conjunto de experiencias me decepciona y entristece profundamente, no solo desde mi perspectiva como profesional de la industria hospitalidad, sino también como alguien que esperaba compartir una experiencia especial con su familia en un restaurante de su propio pueblo. Si algo he aprendido es que, las personas pueden olvidar lo que se les dijo o hizo, pero nunca olvidarán cómo se sintieron. Y lamentablemente, nos hicieron sentir poco bienvenidos con la calidad...
