Sunset Grille — Restaurant in Jenkins Island

I made a reservation for 2 for Saturday, 05/14/22, early of the week and was confirmed by phone by Ms. Linda. I showed up at the restaurant by myself due to my partner had an emergency and could not come on time. I met Jackie walking around with a note pad and informed her of my arrival. She looked at the note pad and told me that she didn't have my reservation on her log. I showed her the confirmation voicemail. She told me that I could go outside and wait for an available spot open at the bar. I expressed that I would not be interested sitting at the bar. She then told me that she couldn't accommodate me, otherwise. I was disappointedly letting her know that it wasn't my fault that the restaurant failed to log my reservation in. In return, she denied the obligation by stating that the reservation was for 2 but only I showed up. After few exchanges, Jackie finally told me that I could sit at a table next to the kitchen wall. At that time my experience had been soured and I refused to dine at the place, where I was mistreated. This was an very unfortunate and reflected poorly on the restaurant and the ownership. The guests there seemed to be highly esteemed yet the way I was treated by Jackie was unacceptable excuse and irresponsible. There are many times that numbers of guests change on the last minutes unexpectedly. I am a seasoned diner and have been around quite a bit but have never encountered such situation. I came from out of town and expected to have a pleasant and relaxing dinner. Parking is a trick to figure out but a charming spot with great views! Small so you need reservations and can only call during business hours to make them, no online res option (google is wrong, they open at 5 not 6). And like other reviews state, don’t count on them keeping your reservation correctly. I made reservations for 4 over a week in advance and for some reason they had us for 2. They accommodated us though. In future I may make an excuse to call back a day ahead to make sure they got it right. Was disappointed with the overcast sunset for a bday dinner but obviously not on them and still lovely ambiance. Service was ok, food was very good. The blue cheese salad was perfectly dressed and the mushroom soup special was to die for! Scallop main had craisins in the risotto which I found weird but once I picked them out it was very good. The chicken and mushrooms pasta was also excellent. We shared a Bailey and chocolate bread pudding for dessert that was awesome. The drinks werent great. The dirty martini was straight up awful and my mai tai was soso. The bathrooms are downstairs and the restaurant is not handicapped accessible. Not an issue for our group but may be for some folks. All of that said it was still a wonderful dinner! Lived here all my life and it was my first trip here! I called and left a voicemail to make a reservation on Monday, 05:09/22. Linda called back on Tuesday and left a message to confirm a reservation for 2 on Saturday, 05/14/22. I showed up at the restaurant 15 minutes prior to my reservation and talked to a lady walking around with a note pad. Her name was Jackie. She couldn’t find my reservation on her log. I showed her the confirmation voicemail. She then told me that the reservation was for two but only me showed up so they would not have a table for one??? She then told me if I wanted to dine, I had to wait outside until a spot at the bar became available. I refused to sit at the bar, then she told me that she couldn’t not accommodate me. I told her that it was not my fault if the restaurant failed the log my reservation in, she then in turn said it wasn’t the restaurant’s fault if my reservation was for two but only I showed up. She finally told me that I could sit at the table next to the kitchen without any apology. At that time I had lost my appetite and told her that I wouldn’t dine at a restaurant, who had mistreated the guests. This is really sad and negative for the restaurant. The guests I saw there seemed to be seasoned diners and such the presence of a bad staff like that would ruin their experience and the restaurant’s effort...
