I have had the pleasure of trying NUMEROUS items from their menu and many desserts made by their pastry chef and i have to say they have ruined me. I can't eat a box mix cupcake anymore or a prepackaged cinnamon roll. The giant cinnamon rolls with a TON of super fluffy light icing are my go-to favorite. I scrape off the icing, wrap it in foil, and stick it in the oven for 10 min and then reapply the icing and it is like it was just baked. I actually have one in my freezer right now.
The desserts are to DIE for. Conveniently packed in to go containers even if you can't manage it right then they are worth getting one for later. I just had a slice of almond cake, and I don't even LIKE almond cake...well, until I tried THIS cake! Paper thin almonds that melted in your mouth made this cake one of my favorites so far. No overly sugary sweet icing on these cakes. They are light, airy with subtle flavor that doesnt taste greasy or heavy. My husband says the brownies are the best he's had.
For weekend Brunch...their most popular time they open at 10am and stay busy...The brunch goers enjoy mimosas and peach bellini's on the outdoor patio or sit inside and play one of the many board games the keep stacked on a shelf.
Some of us in the over 40 crowd remember the chain restaurant 'Bennigans' and their Monte Cristo sandwich. Little Kitchen blows that out of the water. The LKHTX version is super thick slices of French toast premium quality sliced ham, brie cheese all super hot and delicious. Oh and homemade stawberry sauce for the side. The serving size is HUGE. No additional sides are needed. My husband had a breakfast plate with home fries. Fresh, handmade home fries. They are spiced just right to take the whole breakfast up a notch. By far the best we've ever tasted. For brunch I have heard the eggs Benedict are really good. I have tried the chicken n waffles, butter chicken, the turkey sandwich..and a few other things and I have yet to find something I DONT like. You can't go wrong eating here.
There is something to be said for somewhat 'fancy' food in a casual inviting atmosphere. It is kinda a hipster family vibe. The restaurant is spotless. Super clean. The tables are a little tight as far as spacing but not excessively so.
They also have a separate room called "the little ballroom" they rent out for events and parties, and I know they cater weddings as well. I highly suggest you visit. They are only open for dinner on Thurs and Friday until like 8:30 the rest of the week they close at 2:30. I know they have 2 other locations one in SW Houston and another in Rice village. I don't know about their hours or menu but have no doubt it's good. When you go don't forget to take home a dessert or cinnamon...
Read moreI’m giving 2 stars because I usually come in to order, the food is pretty good. However, be cautious if you are ordering with a food app! I very seldomly write reviews but this interaction has me very unsettled.
I called originally and spoke with a guy and told him I wanted to modify my order and add a side that wasn’t offered on the app. He was very helpful and accommodating me, while even offering to adjust the price down a bit but I let him know it was ok.
I called back because I added a latte and on the options it just says “latte”, however I wanted it ice and with some syrup and oat milk as I do not drink dairy milk. Given that there was NO OPTION to do so, I just added it to the notes.
If you all know about delivery orders, people do not pay attention to them as much (the drivers or stores), so I just wanted a verbal confirmation from the store. That’s when a girl (not sure her name, she didn’t give it) picked up and I heard her yell very sarcastically “Someone is calling saying they spoke with ‘the guy’ and wanted to make sure their DoorDash order was ‘ok’” very snarky and nasty. I ignored it when I heard him confirm he did it as he was very polite about it.
I then asked about the latte and she replied, “that’s how we made it ma’am” and I let her know I appreciated it and just wanted to double check, I cannot make this up she hung up the phone instantly.
I have not felt this dismissed in a long time by a smaller business. I actually have been here in person multiple times not only personally but with my job as well.
I am very disappointed especially because I came in last week and had a call in order and I believe the same girl who hung up on me, almost forgot to ring me up and I reminded her that I did not pay. She thanked me for reminding her and being an honest person. Maybe this is why I feel very mixed emotions about my experience here.
However, that brief encounter has really changed my mind about ordering here and I hope management can let her know that that’s unacceptable given that everyone else is extremely sweet and considerate. But I will not support where I am disrespected and only tolerated!
S/n: I’ve included a picture of the drink so to the young lady who answered the phone, how would I have known anything other than by tasting it? There is no label...
Read moreSo disappointing... My family was looking forward to trying this restaurant because the reviews were good. Yikes...
(1) The food took a long time to arrive even though it wasn't busy. The dining room, which is small to begin with, wasn't even close to max capacity.
(2) There were piles of dirty dishes left out next to the fountain drinks that no one ever cleaned up the entire time we were there.
(3) The server tried to give our food to a different table then took it back to the heat lamps and left it there. They didn't bring it to us until we were waving at them to let them know that we thought that was our food.
(4) All of the foods that were cooked in a deep fryer were extremely overcooked and burnt.
(5) Everything I tried was very bland and desperately needed even just a pinch of salt. The mashed potatoes were gummy and, again, lacked salt.
(6) The "Mac n' cheese" was penne pasta with cheese sauce that had the taste and texture of store bought cheese sauce (think Kraft or Velveeta).
(7) My daughter took a bite of her chicken tenders and didn't want any more. It looked very burnt so I didn't bother trying to get her to eat more. My father just let her have the eggs and fruit from his plate.
(8) My mother's food came with the saddest looking green beans I've ever seen so I didn't even ask to try it. She is a veggie lover so the fact that she didn't eat her green beans speaks volumes to me.
This is just a small, casual restaurant so we weren't expecting 5 star service and food or anything like that. We've been to plenty of hole-in-the-wall kind of restaurants that don't look half as nice as Little Kitchen, but those restaurants still had great food and efficient staff. From our experience, the only good thing about this restaurant is that it looks nice. Too bad everything else was disappointing. My husband says he never wants to eat at Little Kitchen HTX again, and I...
