The Boat House — Restaurant in Johnston

We had high hopes with new owners, but tried to go here and the same manager(?) bartender(?) was super rude, he was there about a year ago and we were embarrassed to take people there then so we hoped with new owners it would be a better atmosphere!

Also, our friends went yesterday and tried to bring their service dog(she has epilepsy) and the man was very rude and said “NO DOGS HERE” (nothing else, no greeting nothing ) but when asked why there was a bowl on the floor, filled with water(clearly a dog bowl) he said “that’s from the old owner we have new owners now - fair, but when we checked records it’s says owners bought this bar in May 2024 soo a water bowl for dogs has been sitting there...

Went to The Boathouse tonight for the first time, originally was having a decent time. Suddenly our bartender started being incredibly rude to us and I noticed her talking about our group to a lot of the locals at the bar. I tried to ask her nicely if there was something we did to offend her. She said that, yes, we did offend her, and she didn't have time for customers like us. Not sure what her issue was with us but she was very vocal about it. We were not intoxicated and tipped after each drink we received. We were looking for a fun bar to come to regularly and ended up at an establishment with horrible service that we will never...

This place has been a great local landmark but has opted to push free speech positions over support of its business and community. They have a right to do this to a large extent but the comments and signs were pretty extreme and impossible to avoid. It harms the feel for customers for sure.
