I really don’t understand all of these raving reviews. Just moved here and looked up places that locals like (thinking it must be good if it’s where the locals go!). Walked in with my dad only to receive multiple smug looks towards us. We made our way to the back where there was only one other table filled. The waitress seemed pissy. I ordered the 16 oz. ribeye and my dad ordered a burger. When the food came, I said “wow!” In reference to the size of my steak, and the waitress crudely replied “what, did you expect a 16 oz steak to be small?” I was speechless! Then I cut into it in multiple areas to find NOTHING but pure fat. I don’t mind some fat on my steak, but this was revolting. I was shocked that it had even been delivered to the table (as a former waitress, I would’ve refused to). My dad’s burger was so salty/full of spices that he ate 1/3 of it and had to stop because he didn’t feel good. The waitress comes and says “I’ll bring to go boxes” to which we replied “no thank you, we’re staying in a hotel that doesn’t have a fridge so it would go to waste anyway” (trying to be polite) & she continued to ask us which hotel we’re staying at and where it was located because she couldn't believe they didn’t have a fridge. RIDICULOUSLY RUDE. I NEVER leave reviews online, but this was by far one of the worst restaurant experiences in my life. I regret not taking photos to back up this lengthy post. Maybe it’s a great place if you’re a known local and get treated with respect. But I would advise anyone coming from out of town (or looking for good food in general)...
Read moreI love breakfast and live so close by, it sounded so perfectly to pair with the Arctic tundra in the negative single digits weather we are having today. I had a farmer's omelette and it was enough to share for two or definitely take half of it home. Their portions are huge!! Comes with hash browns or fried potatoes and toast. I ate a little less than half of everything and took the rest home. My husband had biscuits and gravy with eggs and sausage patties. We both agreed it wasn't like the sausage gravy I make, but had good enough flavor, just not enough sausage. A couple notes: Breakfast is only served til 1:00 and have been known to not serve at all due to lack of AM cooks. So it isn't a bad idea to call and ask ahead or just have fun and take your chances. Also, they don't have equal or grape jelly and their coffee is real acidic and bad flavor, IMO. If you like a bar atmosphere that is pleasant, courteous, down to earth and has good food this is your place. If you're looking for a more aesthetically pleasing building, etc and without TV's, hightop tables, keno and alcohol then this isn't for you. Lol. It's a very laid back, fun and casual setting. Can accommodate bigger groups in a room on the Eastside of the building....
Read moreVery pleasantly surprised with our visit on a chilly Saturday morning. We've lived in Comstock for the better part of 12 years and this is the first time we've stopped in to McGonigle's. When friends ask you to go breakfast in the morning after overendulging the night before, you go to breakfast.
The atmosphere is what you'd expect from a classic Irish pub. This place is easily overlooked as it is located within a strip mall. Don't let the location deter you from giving them an honest shot.
Maybe it was the Bailey's and coffee that I sipped to ease my hangover or maybe it was the relaxed patrons(it was probably also the bloody Mary), but it was a great experience. I'm a sticker for good corned beef, this corned beef hash has classic Irish roots. While at first glance it might not appear as fresh corner beer, I assure you it is and it's worth your time.
One of our friends got the breakfast sandwich, it looked like there was an entire ham steak in it. I'll be back to try more lunch and dinner, especially the corned...
