We had been seeing Burek and Cake recommended on Facebook in several of the Kansas City food groups for months. Finally, we took our lunch to go and check it out.
It did not disappoint.
The lady that was working the counter was SO NICE and HELPFUL. I explained we had never been there before and didn't even know where to begin with all the delicious pastries. She explained each and every one of them in detail and what her favorite was, and what customers really liked.
We ended up trying their savory cheese and flaky pastry. It was salty, flaky, and super cheesy. We got the large and shared. It was so good I could have probably ate one to myself.
We also tried the traditional baklava. It was excellent and flaky, filled with walnuts and not an overwhelming sweet syrup. The tiramsu was some of the best we have had in the city. The lady fingers were dripping with the best flavor of coffee, and the mascarpone was super fluffy with just a hint of sweetness š¤. Raffaello cake was the first time we had ever tried it, we had the strawberry that was highly recommended, and it was so light and so fluffy. I wish I knew more about the ingredients to give a better description ... just know it is worth trying!
We will be back to try all the other goodies they have...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis place is amazing. Seriously, stop reading and go! We had to pick several because they all looked so amazing, and they ARE so amazing. The Dubai Chocolate cake was insane. It was like eating a chocolate bar. The purple cake is an Ube cake, which was delicious and very subtle and not too sweet. The baklava was very good, I think if I warmed it up it would really enhance the flavor. The best thing we got was the blackberry tiramisu. Which it didn't have coffee, but this slightly sweet juice all throughout it. It was like tasting a blackberry cloud. So good and subtle and delicious. Everyone follow them on Facebook for updates and what they make. There are soo many good choices. The owners are extremely kind and this place is really a special gem. GO VISIT!! (It's not far at all from ReRoll Tavern/North KC...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe stopped in for the Potato Burek. It is basically a slightly chewy fried bread stuffed with potatoes. Made from dough looped into a flat. It was absolutely delicious.
They recommended eating it with yogurt, saying that was the traditional way that they mostly ate it. They did also suggest a couple of other options like a whipped cream - which I think might have been available.
They are in one of the tiniest business buildings I have seen, a cute little bakery that appears to be decorated in a Bavarian style. A tiny table with two seats and standing room for a few people.
It is in a bit of an odd spot, near another business and across from a park ... But on a through street in a mostly residential area a bit away from most things.
Definitely recommend checking it out if you...
