This is a tricky review, so I'll give you my summary first then if you want to read on, it's your call.
Good BBQ, and they should get some attention because they have a lot of potential.
Here's the nitty gritty. They're not a full service BBQ joint and they don't compare to nearly everybody else, but I'm hoping if you go, they'll grow and compete with everyone else in town, and our town has a LOT of competition.
First off this is a food stand, slightly better than a food truck. You're eating outside and they will run out of something you want unless you get there before 11:30. That's a problem and a disincentive to go.
They serve beverages in cans and it's a buck.
I had their sampler platter w a friend and they were out of ribs, beef and sausage. Now the owner gave us twice as much of everything and swapped in burnt ends for ribs (these actually had the cartilage in them and not like any others I've ever had", so I'm happy, but I would have liked to try everything that was supposed to be in the sampler platter. We got there at 11:37.
Their sides are easy to forget. I liked their sauce and that's part of the fun of KC BBQ, lots of different sauces.
To get 5 stars, they should never run out of food. I'd like to see them inside. That means buying or renting space. The shopping center they're in could really use a solid tenant, imo. They need a soft drink machine and they need to straight up copy the best sides the big BBQ players do well in KC and add something nobody else does, so corn nuggets, fried mushrooms, fried pickles, cheesy corn, great baked beans, I truly don't remember their cole slaw so that could be better. Fantastic onion rings, fantastic fries, sweet potato fries, home fries, etc.
They've got the potential, but they don't have the building, nor the help, but they're super nice and that...
Read moreJones is great! This walk-up spot offers BBQ 24 hours a day, thanks to its BBQ Vending Machine. You can buy sandwiches, sauce or rub. There are a few tables for outdoor seating, they even have a TV and portable restroom (although it is not a handicapped accessible variety). This spot is located in a parking lot, with plenty of spaces, making accessing easy. It's window service, and the turn-round is fast! Very pleasant service, and I appreciated seeing food being prepared by staff who are masked. The beans were very tasty, slightly sweet, oniony, and included chopped pickles and meat. The fries are lightly seasoned, and not very crispy. The combo plate offers two types of meat served over bread with one side. The turkey isn't very flavorful, from a BBQ standpoint, but it was tender and juicy. The ribs are excellent. Crispy exterior and tender and very flavorful. They're not very meaty but you get three which gives you as much meat as most places which give you only two bones in a combo plate. The burnt end plate is actually a burnt end sandwich, in fact it's chopped up brisket served in a hoagie. It was excellent! I forgot to ask for my meat un-sauced but was pleased to see they only add just enough sauce to enhance the meal. They're not trying to hide flavorless, dry, or fatty BBQ like I've found at the other spots I've reviewed (I'm at about location 100 in KC). The sauce is on the sweet side (as is most in KC) but not cloyingly so, and it's also got a nice black-peppery kick to...
Read moreHow do I start this review? I don't really know how as my mom and I were so excited to come here after watching the Jones' sisters story on Queer Eye. Oh the bbq looked delicious and my mom and I arranged to come to early to check it out. We already knew from the reviews that there would be a little bit of a wait. So, as we walked up there was about ten people in line and we waited about 30 minutes. The Jones' bbq spot is a small spot with a grill next to it with about 10 picnic tables outside decorated with little lights.
Pros: Their bbq sauce is absolutely amazing! You could literally eat it with a spoon. I ate it with some french fries. It has a nice hint of spice, sweetness, and tanginess. Wow and wow! Also, I did love the service. The sisters were there and were so sweet and hospitable. They took a couple of minutes to talk to us and made us feel so welcome!
Cons: The bbq was not the best. The ribs and sausage were both super tough and flavorless, especially the sausage. I tried putting it on the bread with sauce and it just didn't make a difference in the taste. The rib tips were okay, but definitely were tough and had tons of fat on it. Lastly, ghe size of the food compared to the cost was also very small.
I am not sure if I will return because of the lack of flavor and toughness...
