I was a patron as of yesterday, a tourist to the island from out of state, a paying party of 5! Arriving to eat lunch around 1230-1240 to a sign that stated seat yourself. We did just that on the otherside of the bar in the grass picnic table area. A few tables taken on the parking lot side, a bunch of people at the bar and one additional large family just finishing up in the same area as us. We chose our seating and waited for about 7 minutes before we approached the bar for a menu. About 5-7 minutes after that the bartender came to our table, didn't introduce herself or any sort of a warm greeting she took our order, large order as you can imagine for a party of 5: fried pickles, giant pretzel with cheese, 3 flatbreads-Buffalo, BBQ and Potato, 1/2 lb burger, and chicken finger basket as well as 5 drinks! After she took our order 3 women with 2 daughters sat at a high table on our side of the bar, and within 5 minutes after that (roughly 15 minutes after we had sat) 3 younger girls sat at a picnic table near us as well. Immediately after we sat 2 gentlemen off a boat had sat at the bar and were greeted and met with menus before we even asked for ours. Our sharables came reasonably soon BUT then we sat. AND SAT. AND SAT. And much to our surprise the 2 men at the bar had their full meals and then the 3 younger girls at the picnic table received their full meals before us! After waiting roughly an hour I approached the bartender. She was callous immediately with me. I stated that at this point we had been waiting far too long with no info from her (i.e. Sorry about the delay....kitchens backed up.... here's the chicken tenders the rest will follow shortly -as a few examples of what good customer service looks like) With an open arm and spinning motion she clearly wanted me to take note of the others around hinting that she was busy and then stated such. Then I made mention how tables that sat well after us had received their food before ours and she ARGUED with me stating that no they hadn't they were there before us. UNBELIEVABLE! I asked to pay my bill and cancel the remainder of my order. I paid my bill ($28.54) which in all honesty for the treatment and unprofessionalism I received should have...
Read moreWe stopped here on our 23rd anniversary on 6/23/24 after getting camp set up. I chose this place due to it was only 2 establishments on the island that you could view the menu. Also, it was closer to camp via bike ride than the other. Upon arrival, we decided we wanted air condition. I'm sensitive to heat. We were told that dining indoors was closed. That was fine, there was shade and a nice breeze on the patio. Apparently the woman who told us no indoor dining was suppose to take care of us. Instead, she decided to stick her nose up in the air and not do her job. Instead another waitress saw we hadn't had menus or drinks and took care of us. We were about to walk out with a generous tip- IN CASH, before Kala took it upon herself to wait upon us. She profusely apologized and took my husbands alcoholic drink off the tab. The food came out rather quickly as we each ordered a basket, he loves walleye and I'm a connoisseur of chicken fingers. Fantastic coating. Huge amount of French fries with each basket. The Cole slaw was some of the best I've had. The horseradish wasn't strong but there with a ting. There was free self serve water, which is always a good idea with alcohol and sun. Even though it's after the fact, I ate the last chicken finger cold. Wanna know how they're good chicken fingers? If they still crunch when they're cold. And they did. The French fries, even cold, were not soggy. They were firm and some had a tiny crunch like they were fresh. I tipped our waitress 30% not because she apologized for us not being waited on for almost 20 minutes, not because she took off 1 alcoholic drink, not because she was nice. I tipped 30% because the food was good, she was prompt when she did realize we weren't waited on, she apologized on the establishments behalf, AND she took us on when we sat in an area that wasn't hers. And if little miss nose in the air would've done her job instead of ignoring her duties at work, that 30% would've been hers and not the one who did...
Read moreBeen here several times and has usually been good food & service. Today, Thurs 7/11, bar service was horrific. The young lady bartending gave us menus and didn’t return for 15 minutes, I tried to wave her down but she proceeded to wait on other people that arrived after us. Now I’m frustrated so I called out as you passed by yet another time we’re ready to order. She said they’re short handed and started making 4 bloody Mary’s for new arrivals. I went inside to try ordering from the inside bar, not a soul to be found. After another 10 minutes of waiting, finally got our order taken. When asking why she waited on 8 people that arrived after us, she sarcastically said because you weren’t ready to order, even though she never checked back with us after dropping menus. I replied, you shouldn’t be belligerent to customers she replied, “belligerent means I’m drunk and I’m not drunk”. Unreal!! It gets better! A group of 6 ordered drinks after we were served and after delivering them, the woman served asked if she could get as lime for her drink. She walked to the middle of the back bar, picked up a whole lime and threw it at the lady, who proceeded to throw it back at her. The woman, who had overheard the bartenders rude comments to me and my guests, said did you see what she did? I said I thought the bartender was your friend and she was punking you. The woman said I’ve never met her before in my life. This young lady is an example of the bottom of the barrel customer service bar owners resort to on a tourist island like Kelly’s. Having spent my whole career in the foodservice/ hospitality business, I’ve never seen this level of rudeness and incompetence. Bye, bye West Bsy Inn. Well take our...
