Maria's Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Kilgore

Walked in late afternoon and only ones in the restaurant. New waitress so I understand it might be a little slow. Drink order wrong, no problem swap out sweet tea for unsweetened. Food comes out after quite a wait. Doesn't remember what we ordered or know what is even on the plates she has in her hand. The one of three plates that was right given to wrong person and began eating it discovered it's not what they ordered. 2 plates sent back and waited another 10 minutes or more to be remade. Brings back what had to be the worst Mexican food I've ever tasted. Their idea of a green chili pork burrito was a few pieces of pork rolled up like an enchilada in a wet tortilla. Chimichanga was about a quarter of a tortilla. Beans were pureed and rice was wet. Figured cook wasn't happy about remaking the order. Then go to pay and they have no idea how to ring up what we got. Everything we ordered was on the menu not some picky custom order. It blows my mind how bad the restaurants are in Kilgore. Save your money and frustration, drive to Longview or Henderson. Way better choices and edible food. I have never walked out w/o paying but was getting close at this place. Definitely will never go back and sure they could not care less but maybe this review might be a wake up call that there are choices and if you continue to have piss poor service and food I wouldn't feed a dog you might be hanging that closed...

If this had a 0 rating I'd have rated it that!!!... Couldn't get drinks refilled, got our food and had missing items asked for them & they never came.... had to ask if we got hot sauce & chips, after all we went through I asked for a manager and another young child came over making excuses for the 1st child... which they said she was only 15.. I told them I worked in this kinda business for 30+ years & I understood but customer service was essential to any business she told me that the 15 year old wasn't me (obviously because I had more sense at 15)... then said she'd give me a 15% discount... lol... my bill was 58.00 they took 8.00 off then added 4+ tax and charged me 3.00 for using my cc... so $1.00 was taken off my bill... lol... but I will never be back & since I'm a consultant for food magazine they won't be getting anything good said... these children these days working in the public and rude to the elders are insane!!! DO NOT GO TO THIS RESTAURANT!!... oh and let's not forget the cleaned the tables with a fabuloso/bleach mix which I had to ask if I could get a rag to clean off our table cause our arms were sticking to it.... absolutely a horrible...

Editing again: I assume since I posted prior review that staff has changed. We eat there pretty often again and have had no issues. I do still recommend checking their hours and/or arriving well before closing time.

Editing my prior 5 star rating. The food is consistently good, however there are recurrent issues with other things. If you plan on eating there after 6 PM, I recommend calling to see if they are open/going to be open at the time you plan to be there. After eating there tonight, upon trying to exit, the front door was significantly difficult to get unlocked which is a safety concern. Perhaps the young lady that was sitting on her phone face timing a male could have gotten up to unlock it while we paid. We had finished eating and were paying out by about 8:05 PM. She stated they closed at 8 PM, thus I have suggested an edit with Google to correct their closing time. If we do ever go back, it will be at lunch only since the majority of service issues...
