First time here was a weekday for lunch back in May. The service was good then, friendly and welcoming. The food delicious. Tonight was a totally different story. Tonight was a nightmare sh#* show.
To start, we walked into the door with a woman demanding to see the manager and was tired of waiting to talk to her. Not a promising start 🤔
The service was crazy slow. As we walked in to be seated I noticed plates were stacked in 3 different places around the room and the tables were super cramped together. The trays of dishes were even blocking the stairs going down into the room. I couldn't even use the railing! Can you say hazard?! I just had 2 hips replaced this year and needed to use the railings for safety. Thank goodness for my hubby's arm. The plates of dirty dishes stayed there for most of the time we were there without being picked up. The waitresses just kept stacking and stacking. Why was no one actuly taking them back to be cleaned or be out of view to diners? Our table was right next to a folding table stacked high with one of these dirty plate piles. Only saw the plates picked up once during the hour and half we were there. Then they were promptly filled back up again. Great... fresh dirty plates...yay 🙄. Umm ewe, no thank you 🤢
We ordered our prime rib dinners right away after sitting down, one medium rare and one just medium. Salad bar was pretty standard, nothing to rave about, but appreciated while we waited for steaks to come out. 20 minutes after ordering dinner the waitress came back to tell us they actuly were sold out of prime rib. Wow, sold out by 630?! Wonder why it took so long to tell us? I asked right before ordering if it was available and told yes. Ok no biggie, we changed to a medium rare rib eye and a medium bacon wrapped filet mignon.
A little over an hour later the steaks came out, horribly wrong. My medium well filet was spit open into a skinny, way over cooked and dry small piece of meat. It was so over cooked that I couldn't even get any juice out of it. Bone dry and like warm at best. My husbands steak was not any better. It was really rare throughout and actuly cold in the middle! The steak was not even cooked at all in the middle. We sent our food back and was told the manager would come over to talk to us. We waited 15 minutes and the waitress came back saying the manager was busy but she would take my steak off the bill and cook my husbands steak more to get it to medium. She did offer to replace my steak with something else, but by now we just wanted to pay the drink bill and leave to a better restaurant up the road. Yes, we were that pissed that we just wanted to leave without waiting for replacement food. It was not worth the wait and the manager didn't even show up to talk to us still. Even though we asked to speak to her and stated that we wanted to leave the maker never showed. We paid our drinks bill and left to a happier place where we knew the quality and service would be stellar.
Would have felt better about all of this if the manager even attempted to talk to us or apologized in person about the food. I understand busy nights happen, but there is no excuse for high prices, bad food, dirty dishes and bad management.
We will not be going back here again and would not recommend this restaurant. Can't believe that place is so busy but sucked so freaking much. Date night ruined. Very disappointing night. The crowd must be due to the limited food options...
Read moreWe have been ordering the Seafood Newburg for years. The price has gone up through the years and it was quite understandable for what they give you, but......Last night we noticed the price is now $30.00. We all looked at each other and I said, you know what? It's fine. We know everything is more expensive these days and we came here just for Seafood Newburg which they have always been consistent with the quality and quantity of Large shrimp, Sea Scallops, and whole lobster claws with a few knuckles added on. The sauce is to die for and in the past, they were very generous with that as well. We had our soup and salad which is the best around and Jen (our very sweet waitress) placed our entrées in front of each of us. We all looked down and looked up at each other. The sauce was a small spot in the middle of a sea of (dry) pasta. There were 4 scollops, 4 shrimp, and a few dry rubber tips of tiny lobster claws strategically embedded to look like whole claws until you picked it up and saw that it was just a tip. I hate that part of the lobster and have always given mine to my kids. There was no white and pink chunky parts of the claw like they used to give you and no knuckles. We were so disappointed. Had this been the first time I had ordered this entrée, I would have still loved it. It is still just as delicious. But if you are going to raise the price from $19.99 (3 years ago)- $24.99 1(a year or 2 ago) to $29.99 as of today, then for God's sake, give the customers what they are paying for. You don't raise the price and skimp out on the product. I let the waitress know when she asked if everything was okay. I was kind and careful with my words knowing it is no fault of hers, and that I think management should know that it should not be overlooked. I work hard for my money and when I make the decision to splurge on a luxury plate, a luxury plate is what is served. When you buy a Mercedes from a dealership, you don't drive home in a Volkswagen. So I am taking away my 5 stars and giving them 3. The salad bar is still the best around, the atmosphere is nice, but if you're going to celebrate your son's birthday by going all out on what you all want for a birthday dinner, then don't order the high priced entrées at this establishment. You will be paying a high price for a short order of the most important parts of the dish. Will we still come here? Yes. We will just keep it simple and stay clear of...
Read moreWe were seated quickly, but waited a while for our waitress. In her defense, she didn't know she was working our table, so another waitress took it upon herself to take our orders, and whatever else we needed.
The salad bar was very good, with thick NE Clam Chowder, and nice Manhattan Clam Chowder. The salad was very good, as well. Due to COVID you are no longer allowed to cut your own bread. As a replacement they cut the bread, a head of time, and wrap a couple pieces in plastic wrap. The down side to this is that the bread isn't always fresh and gets a bit hard.
I had the Grilled Chicken Dinner, and my wife had Grilled Pork Chop Dinner. We both got mashed potatoes, and her meal came with applesauce. We thought it strange that there is no vegetables that come with the meals, other than the salad bar.
The food was rather tasteless. The bread didn't have any real flavor, neither did the chicken, the pork, or the potatoes. No seasonings or sauces appeared to be used. The food was moist and cooked well, but just not very flavourful.
They do good business, maybe we just went on an off day. The waitress we ended up with, was very efficient and happy to please.. They should think about updating the interior, as well. Change the decor and maybe brighten it up...
