We decided to visit Maple Creek Bistro for our 10 year anniversary dinner, with our kiddos in tow. Part of the deal when you move away from family. We decided on this spot due to rave reviews from friends.
We arrived at 6:15 (15 minutes early for our reservation, the one my husband was told he didn’t need to make) and were promptly seated.
Our server, Codi greeted us 10 minutes later, took our drink order ( which promptly arrived), then took our dinner order. We didn’t order anything special- a maple creek burger, the special (which is more expensive than everything else on the menu), kids nuggets and a pizza. WE WAITED ONE HOUR FOR OUR FOOD!!!
Our kids were ravenous, their food should have been served first, even if we had to wait for ours. But…
No check ins from our server, no apologies, nothing. With my kids basically going feral I interjected after she turned the table next to us, asking when our food would arrive. To which Codi replied that they were VERY busy. I then took a look around in disbelief, Maple Creek is obviously a popular spot but not busy enough to keep a family of four waiting an hour for a basic order.
Truth is, she clearly forgot to put in our order, and disregarded us from that point on…
Having a history as a server myself, if she had been honest with us, perhaps offered us ANYTHING to make up for the long wait, all would have been forgotten. But no…
I will not return to Maple Creek Bistro and would not suggest it to anyone hoping for an elevated night out, unless you have all night to spend waiting...
Read moreOur first visit to Maple Creek was more than a meal; it was an experience. We began with Uncle Chris' Bologna. It was delectable cubes of smoked bologna served on a bed of lettuce and smothered in an orange glaze. As a smoker myself, I wasn't expecting such rich smoky goodness in each bite. I have never been able to achieve it.
Next, I had the fish and chips. Another astonishing taste sensation, and another experience. The cod was light, delicate and very lightly battered making the cod the star. But the homemade tartar sauce put it over the top. The chips were great, straight out of Ireland. What more could one ask?
My wife enjoyed her red shrimp and grits. I grow weary of her repetitious ordering of the same item, but this time it paid off in spades. When hers arrived I was astonished with the dish. I had to taste those grits. I'm not sure, but these were made from hominy, not hominy grits. They had larger kernels and I stole a taste to discover they were as creamy as I have ever tasted. My wife offered me a shrimp, but would have been a sin considering the size of my own entrée. Three pieces of cod was very sufficient, besides, by this time our delightful waitress, Kesney, had informed us of her favorite dessert, so sufficiency of entrée had been satisfied. So a carry out box was presented, along with a wink and a smile by a well trained waitress. She then brought both my wife and I delectable dessert choices. How could I not choose Kesney's favorite. The experience was excuisite. We...
Read moreThe place was very nice. I love a restaurant with atmosphere and this one was eat up with it. Dark, warm and comfortable. Actually a little too dark for my old eyes but I figure that's a personal preference so I'm not going to ding them for that. They didn't have Reisling wine but our server assured us that since they had so many requests for it that it was forthcoming. Yay! She didn't mean that night so I had to settle for a Pinot. I took the servers suggestion (I wish I could remember her name) and got the Fish and Chips and Deborah, my wife, got a salad. All I remember about her salad was it had sliced strawberries on it. The food quality was excellent. My Fish and Chips (fries and Cole Slaw) was cooked perfect, and I mean perfect.
We had one glass of wine and one dessert and still got out of there for just over $50. Great location too, very convenient if you're traveling through that section of I-40 at Kingston (where the Clinch river and those two really tall smoke stacks (or whatever you call them).
P.s. I know you can tell a lot about a place by looking at their bathrooms. Well Maple Creek Bistro is in the top 3 by this rating. Magazine-level decorating and clean as the proverbial whistle. We give it...
