The food here was amazing! Great flavors, great prices, generous portions, wonderful service! Everything was homemade and delicious. My husband has been searching for a place that had homemade hand-breaded country fried steak and this was the first place we found that had it and it did not disappoint (everyone else uses frozen breaded meats). I love omelets, but I am usually disappointed because they are usually dry, overcooked, with little flavor and ingredients...not the case at Tom's! I am also a dessert girl and homemade desserts are hard to find, anyway ones that taste good. The pies and cinnamon rolls were to die for. I ordered one of almost every pie and the cinnamon and pecan rolls. We were traveling backroads from Texas to Iowa and saw the reviews and decided to stop and try it. So glad we did. We even got to meet Tom, a very friendly hardworking man. We will be making a detour to Tom's on our trips from Navarre, FL to Westfield, IA from now on! Way out of our way, but so worth the trip!

Everything everyone else has said !!!! A terrific find on an early morning drive across Kansas along an unfamiliar road and well worth the effort especially as the last place my GPS referred me to further south turned out to be a CEMETARY!!!!! Fabulously friendly people who served up great conversation with delicious food......an often missing condiment which made my experience much better. Be sure you come here before 2 pm and after 4:30 pm as they are smart enough to give themselves a MUCH deserved daily break. ONLY DOWNSIDE......(but it keeps things cheaper!!!!) CASH ONLY!!!!!!

Found this spot via a Google search for restaurants near me while visiting Kinsley Kansas. Glad I did. Diner food and real deal home cooking all in one. Ate lunch here, had a Hamburger Steak with fries. Cooked just right and the fries were just like home made. The staff was wonderful, waitress attentive, and priced as reasonable as can be. Locals eating lunch there and everybody knew everyone. This is the kind of place anyone could call home. If you get the chance to stop in make sure you do so. Definitely recommend.

It was ok, not great, not terrible, a "C" grade I suppose, fine for your cousin's backyard burger burn but a little lacking for restaurant prices. It was packed wall to wall, the seating is very "close" to try to maximize their space, gets a little "social" when the open-mouth-chewer from table six wants to keep staring at you... The waitress was nice but the older woman behind the counter (owner? owner's wife?) kept interrupting her and stepping on her tongue (when she was doing just fine) which started getting real old real fast. Not good enough food for me to bother going back to hear her overtalk people let alone if my "new friend" from Table 6 is...

All I had was a grilled cheese sandwich with an egg on it. But they served it up exactly how I make mine back home in California, including the type of cheese, the bread and how they cooked the egg. It was perfect, and exactly what I was wanting at the time. I've been on the road around the US for the past two months. And haven't been able to have a comfort food like this yet. I've tried, the few places I went to didn't use the proper bread and/or it was toasted too much, or they over cooked the egg. They made it properly. Thank you Strate's, sometimes its the small things like a grilled cheese and egg sandwich, that...
