Staying close to nature doesn’t mean missing out on a good meal. #KodiakIsland #AlaskaEats #WildernessRetreat #OldsRiverInn #KodiakRetreat #OldsRiverInn

Average restaurant, above average location. Our family of 4 adults and one child were highly recommended this restaurant - it sits in a great spot for travelers, but would not recommend as a “must visit”. The fish tacos and fried yelloweye were outstanding, the grilled halibut a bit dry. We were never advised of the specials, which we would have ordered, and the beer choices are limited. We were asked if we had a reservation for a weekday at 5:30pm, but the restaurant was never full while we were there. The prices for the menu were average.

Pasta was amazing and the clam appetizer sauce was good enough to be a soup. No Wi-Fi though and I felt the pork sandwich didn't come with enough BBQ sauce. The waitress brought me a cup right away when I asked so she was pretty friendly.

My daughter and I stopped in Thursday evening the 27th after visiting some friends in Pasagshak. First annoying thing a somewhat pretentious waiter asked us if we knew that the dust in the air was volcanic ash. My daughter asked if there was an eruption and he said no, it was old ash, I said "oh yes, Katmai! ". He said "oh no, Mt Redoubt". Anyway, annoying and wrong but not letting it ruin our fun time. We are old time residents but live in another part of Alaska now. My daughter ordered ribs and I ordered the halibut tacos. Last summer when I visited I had them and they were delicious, deep fried halibut filets in a lightly steamed double corn tortilla with avocado and fresh accoutrements. Last night there were two little flat dry corn tortillas with a thin slice of cod, about two bites worth, and that is two small bites. I ate one taco and kept the other to take to my host who both husband and wife work in the seafood industry. I was not going to complain because in my experience when a cook sends out something that shoddy there is no redemption. Who knows what they will inflict on you next. My daughter felt she needed to let them know we were disappointed in the tacos but the waitress was defensive insisting it was halibut and fresh caught 3 days ago. I don't know how she would know this as all restaurant halibut must be purchased. But the halibut was judged to be cod by my kodiak friends. The ribs were tasty and we send our compliments to the Texan rib chef. If he made the tacos though he should be horsewhipped. Ok, a bit over melodramatic but they were...

Worth a shot. Had a rough visit awhile back ago, but the owner who is always present, had asked us to give them a second shot and they did not disappoint. the Bacon Wrapped Halibut bites were truly great, and were only made better with the dijon sauce. Their Children's menu is smaller than most other restaurants, but the food is great, and the children loved it. Service was fast and attentive. With a small batch onsite brewery, they can offer great IPA and many other variety that any craft beer connoisseur would enjoy. The distance from town makes for a great drive on this beautiful island, and you are sure to see some wildlife on the way, and the view from your seat will beat anything in town. This place is worth your time and you will not be disappointed. My many thanks to the staff and owner, you are truly providing first class food and service. Also, the Chocolate Lava Cake, was the...

It had been quite a few years since I had dined here so we were all looking forward to it. Well long story short it took nearly two hours to get our food which was two burgers and some fried shrimp. That's completely unacceptable. Especially for nearly a $100 meal. On the plus side the beer was great and they did move us from the cold deck to the inside when they could. But a 2hr wait with no sort of compensation or anything but a verbal "sorry" will prevent me from eating there again. Sure I'll go for beers but that's about it.

Edit: Fortunately I did leave a tip equivalent to the service recieved. In the restaurant business you work as a team and at some point the servers were failed by their team members. I'd recommend hiring more staff as they do work hard and the issue seems to be fundamental from...
