The Rendezvous — Restaurant in Kodiak Island

This is such a great place to eat on the other side of town. The owner was very nice and helpful. She helped us pick out what to order and was very quick and efficient. The food came out so fast & hot. There is a full bar along with a pool table and darts to enjoy. It is pretty outdated though. The food was excellent! There were no complaints! Everything was so filling, tasted fresh, and great quality. The cod sandwich was delicious and the fish tacos were incredible, it's a go to dish. The smoked salmon pasta was very good, I could eat that every day! The clam chowder tasted so good, it had so much flavor, slightly spicy, but it was mainly full of potatoes and only one small clam. It was also more of a soup than a chowder since it was more watery and not thick at all. I prefer chowder to be thick and creamy, but the taste was super delicious! This week, I’m in Kodiak with some other veterans who served here. Tonight, one of us tried to eat at Rendevous with his teenage daughter who is Asian. The waitress served him a beer and her a soda. Then, she came back and asked them to leave because his daughter was under 21. She said a minor couldn’t be in the restaurant because there was no separation from the bar and dinner seating so he asked to sit outside. She called the owner and then told my friend that his daughter couldn’t sit outside either. She never asked for ID nor asked if my friend was her father. He paid for the drinks and left. Maybe the waitress thought my old friend could still score a date with a beautiful 17yo Asian female? Or maybe the Rendevous just doesn’t like people that are Asian? Can’t really say. Rendezvous is one of our favorite spots for dinner and drinks, or if we have been out the road all day and need a good hearty meal. Friday night's are steak nights, where they grill steaks on the back grill and are perfection. They are also kid friendly and accommodate the menu offering grilled cheese and chicken quesadillas. Some favorites of ours are the BLT which is loaded with crispy bacon, fresh lettuce and tomatoes and a side of handcut fries. The clam chowder is made in house and is my favorite chowder on the island. The salmon burger and halibut burger are also a favorite of mine. The Philly cheese steak is loaded with tender pieces of beef,mushrooms,peppers, onions and cheese. The pasta salad is a smoked salmon pasta salad and a side is a great addition to any meal.
