They need to change how they seat people. Left tables open (6-8 toppers) when there were people waiting for a long time. Sat people in order of getting there, but if you had 4 people, they didn't seat them at a larger table. They waited until a 4 top was ready. Since they only had half the restaurant open for whatever reason, people stood in line quite awhile. They lost a lot of business. The problem was that where they are located & on a Sunday, there wasn't any other restaurants open. When we were closer up, I mentioned to a waitress that she had a 2 topper & a 3 topper that had been sitting empty for awhile. The people next in line were 2 & then us, which we were 3. I said that she could at least seat us. She sat the 2 & walked away. I sat my family. She could have seated both of our groups at the same time. She gave us dirty looks & my daughter said "now you've done it, we aren't going to get any service now!" I said we will if they want a tip! A different waitress came right over with menus & tableware. She was really nice & efficient. I think that she had just come on. We were told by many people that the wait was worth it. The food was good, but that did not mean anything to a 5 year old who was getting the hangrys! I'm giving them only 3 stars only because of our waitress. The prior service took away...
Read moreMy family and I have driven 45 miles many times just to eat at this restaurant since they supposedly serve breakfast all day. Sadly, last Sunday will be our last trip there. We arrived around 1:30 and sat down. I was anticipating having the steak and eggs since we set out for the drive down. I have many food sensitivities and their steak and eggs is one of the items I can eat without issue. However, the waitress informed us as I was ordering that no breakfast (even the ones with timers which indicates they are served at all times) would be served do to the restaurant being what they considered busy. The place was a little over half full and most people were already eating. I was livid!!!! The waitress did not try to give us exceptional service to make up for the lazy cooks. I had to hunt down a server to have my husband's soda refilled. She asked us how everything was while walking by not even pausing at the table.
I was looking around for the owner or manager who has been there during our other visits. Not surprisingly she was nowhere to be found. We quickly understood why the cooks were pulling their crap and why the service was disgraceful. We have enjoyed our visits in the past, but I cannot enjoy myself at a restaurant when clearly the staff just doesn't care about the business they are...
Read moreWent to the Hilltop Restaurant, L'Anse, MI to meet up with my boss who was in Hancock MI, I'm based in Marquette MI. It was a good place to meet in between. It was really good. We just ordered burgers but they were delicious. My main goal before leaving the Hilltop was to buy some of their famous cinnamon sweet rolls. Their bakery is awesome and way back when, when I went to Michigan Tech, traveling between Houghton and Marquette MI, we always stopped in at the Hilltop to buy these exact same "huge" cinnamon sweet rolls (we called them, "Sinkers"...somebody else named them, not really sure why). It's been years since I've been through these parts so I was delighted to see they still made these. I picked up a few and brought them home. They were so awesome and delicious! Glad to be back in the U.P. after being away for a very long time. So happy the Hilltop Restaurant is going strong. I will always stop in whenever I'm in town. Thank you to the...
