Back Porch BBQ & GRILL — Restaurant in La Grange

Food was fine. Only weird thing was that we were late and there was no line behind us but the staff member at the counter still rushed us through the menu and confused me regarding what sides were included and which were not, what meat was available (the board outside hadn't been updated) and then there were some side items missing on the receipt but they were on the order sent to kitchen. What was odd was that she said that any misunderstanding was due to my accent. I haven't heard that in 15 years. I accepted that and shrugged it off but then realized that a family that came in a little later had an interesting issue with her too..they had come all the way from Houston for brisket and had called in the morning for potentially reserving/ordering some meat. Not only did they mess this up, the same staff member that had been odd to me apparently told her "well should have come earlier". Everyone else was friendly, maybe she's usually too and was just...

My husband and I were passing through on the way to Alice Texas, when we spied what looked like a great spot to stop for lunch... When there are a lot of police cars at a BBQ restaurant, either there is something going on or the food is really great. In this case it's the food... Really good menu, easy to order... Service was great and the place was packed. My husband and I both had barbecue sandwiches, I had the brisket, loaded with so many succulent slices of brisket that I had to eat some with a knife and fork before I could get the sandwich to work! My husband had a mixed BBQ sandwich, which came on a locally baked sourdough bun... He is gluten sensitive, but can have sourdough, so this was really nice. Service was good, prompt even though the place was packed. There is a bar, bar tables and regular tables as well, with sports channels going on several TV screens around the rooms. The food and service is good. However, on the receipt (after you get you food, they don't tell you ahead of time) it states that there will be a 15 % gratuity but instead they charged and 18% gratuity which the waitress heard us all talking about it and said "oh well, it's just the minimum gratuity". Wrong!!! We had a table of 7 with 3 different tickets and each couple were charged 18%. I'm NOT ok with this. We won't be back. I should be about to tip what I feel is appropriate. It wasn't worth $9 x 3.

I have only been to your place 3 times. Always in groups and that never happened before. I know as a business owner myself how this time has effected people. However, my customers know up front what their bill will be. No need to help me out with 3%. I just will not return to your business. Best of luck in the future. Rudeness is...
