Mama Reta’s Kitchen Llc — Restaurant in Lake Charles

We love mama Reta food. We had gambo and catfish friday special. Both are great. The location is convenient from I 10 from west to east. It is basically right at the exit. Mama Reta can tell that this is our first time here. We got two free cakes. My husband loves everything we ordered from here. He was the one who did not want to go out of highway to try this place and complaining about that he can not sit down to eat. But at the end of the day, he thinks it is so worthy to make a stop here. It is a take out place. So you will have to eat in a car and there is no restroom. What we did is that we ordered our drinks and chicken nuggets from mcdonald's and ate our food there. We stopped at Mama Reta's in Lake Charles on the way to New Orleans looking for a place to eat, and I will say, it was the best mistake ever. We ordered the fried chicken wings with cornbread and texas toast along with a side of the cornbread dressing. The flavor was on point! No hot sauce is needed for the wings. Whatever secret breading she is using was the best fried chicken I've ever had. And the dressing, omg, I would've sworn my grandma was in the kitchen! They were so good we tried to stop on the way back to find out they were closed on Sundays. The only reason I rated 4 stars is because we didn't receive any napkins or utensils and I got toast instead of cornbread. I’ll start by saying I am extremely critical of food, so I can only leave my honest opinion of this restaurant….. It’s my first time in Lake Charles and came across this restaurant online. Very welcoming and hospitable. I went with the chicken wings & onion rings and was not disappointed. Wings were cooked to perfection, perfectly seasoned to where it’s not too little/too much, pretty golden color, it was overall just perfect. The onion rings were amazing as well and cooked just right. Nice and crispy! I’m not much of a sauce person, but did enjoy dipping a ring or two in this sauce that came with it.
