River Jams — Restaurant in Lake Hallie

Arrived shortly after 7pm on a Saturday. There were 4 staff and roughly 20 people inside (outside there was live music, so different story). We sat at the bar, the 2 end seats closest to the door. It took quite a while to be acknowledged, and even then we were not asked if we wanted menus. We were bummed about the abbreviated menu options, but chose a basic burger very well done, fries, and coconut shrimp. We had to nearly be obnoxious to have our order taken as multiple staff walked right by us serving people walking up to the bar. We waited nearly 45 minutes with empty glasses at this point for our food. When our dinner was ready a staff member brought one plate with a cheeseburger and one plate with shrimp. No napkins, no silverware, no condiments, and no fries. We asked for all and were given napkins and fries. I tore my burger in half and it was still very pink. A 1/4 inch thick frozen patty that took an hour to make was still partially raw. At this point I pushed my plate away and when finally acknowledged by what we think was an owner asked for a box so I could take it home and finish cooking it. She did offer to have another made but I wasn't waiting another hour. Also I was drinking melted ice at this point, with still no acknowledgement of an empty drink. When we asked for our bill it was also incorrect. There was our food along with a beer and a wine drink which we did not have. We attempted to get someone's attention to rectify, but after waiting another 10 minutes to be acknowledged we just paid it and left. I've never in my life left less than a 20% tip (usually way over that as I know how hard service staff works), but tonight I left a very nominal one. Over an hour for a dinner I had to go home and finish cooking, all while having people served drinks while standing over me and being ignored caused a nominal tip. 1st time at this restaurant. My 20 yr old son and I just got home from Friday night fish fry at River Jams. Just so everyone knows (we didn’t know this), they ONLY have fish on Fridays. My son had the battered fried cod dinner and enjoyed it and I had the grilled walleye. The walleye was sooooo good! The seasoning was amazing and it was grilled literally perfect. My baked potato was great, coleslaw tasted fresh and even the dinner roll was good…we didn’t even add butter it was so good. My son’s “kiddie cocktail” refill was free. I got a Bloody Mary with a Spotted Cow chaser. The Bloody Mary had good flavor and was definitely not watered down. If you’re a lightweight drinker like me, only order one drink here, lol. If I had any complaint it would be about the Bloody Mary. I made it pretty clear that I wanted the spice in the drink to be mild. If that was mild, I’d hate to get it medium or spicy. If I hadn’t have liked the buzz I was catching (lol) I wouldn’t have finished the drink. I’m also a lightweight with spice, but this was pretty spicy, especially for mild. It even said mild on the receipt, so I know that our waitress knew, but not sure whoever mixed it saw that. Four girlfriend’s just stopping in for a drink and appetizers. Two waitresses and a bartender were directly in front of us as we waited to be asked if they could help us. Gave up on them and asked if we could see a menu. We got a menu and ordered drinks and cheese curds and French fries. We sat outside among other’s and watched them all be waited on and served. Over an hour no one asked if we’d like another drink nor did we get our food order. We inquired about our order and no one knew anything about it. They went back in and came back out serving others. Again we waited, FINALLY our order came with an explanation that “The fryer has been a little slow today.” Yeah, but not for other orders. Hmmm, Our food was oily and basically disgusting. Still, no one offered to refresh our drinks. Extremely disappointing. I’d been there a year ago and the food and service was great....
