Unfortunately, our recent visit to 1916 was very disappointing. I had been here last year with my teammates and remembered a much better experience, so this was unexpected.
We had a party of six on a Sunday nightânothing too large or unmanageable. We made a reservation, but it turns out we didnât even need one since the restaurant wasnât busy at all. There were plenty of open tables, so it should have been a smooth evening.
Despite that, it took a long time for our order to be taken, and even longer for the food to come out. We had finished our waters and drinks well before our appetizers even arrived, and we barely saw our server the entire time. One of our meals didnât come out at all, and we had to wait even longer for thatâalong with having to ask multiple times just to get our waters refilled.
The chicken Caesar salad was actually very good, but I also ordered the soup of the day (a tomato bisque), and no spoon was brought out with itâso I had to eat it with a fork. It might sound minor, but it really reflects the lack of attention to detail throughout the evening.
It was just really disappointing, especially considering how great the view is and how nice the space could be for a night out. The setting deserves better service and a more...
Read moreI visited the 1916 located at the Cleveland heights golf and country club. Often the restaurant at such places is an afterthought. The choice to bring in 1916 was a great idea. Their normal menu has some really great items, including the fried fish sandwich, the Cuban, and the shrimp po boy. But the star of the show are the Irish nachos. Okay, they're about as Irish as a Peking duck, but they are terrific. First off, they have a base of homemade potato chips. Then, you get lamb. When was the last time you saw any restaurant offering lamb not in a gyro? And it tastes like lamb, unlike what I've gotten in certain gyros that shall remain nameless. Finally it is topped off with a unique sauce that, while salty, makes it all work. The atmosphere gets a point off but that is not the fault of the restaurant, but rather it's landlord, who hasn't remodeled in a while. It's a great...
Read moreI suggest find someplace else to eat and/or drink. Seriously, my husband and I just walked out. We went in to grab a draft beer, bar is not packed, walked right up, and sat at the bar. Two Bartenders working. Not one, acknowledged us, nor even looked at us. We waited ten minutes without any acknowledgment. Their focus was on the walk-ups to the server station. The walk-ups were not servers but customers. The staff blatantly ignored the people sitting at the bar. I was a Bartender for years. First rule, no matter how busy you are acknowledge people who sit down. Second rule, make eye contact and say I will be right with you. To note, they were not that busy and this is located at a golf course. A shame that poorly trained staff will cost a business money. We are in town for a tournament and planned on going back tonight and tomorrow to eat. Would have gave zero stars if...
