At most ice cream shops (and restaurants in general, for that matter), vegan options are an afterthought. All of the love and attention and R&D is paid to their dairy-based flavors, and the two to three vegan options (which serves not just vegans, but people with lactose intolerance or dairy allergies) are either a sorbet (which is delicious, but lacking the creaminess I desire in an ice cream and ever being the only vegan fruit option gets tiresome after a while) or a coconut-forward version of an otherwise interesting flavor (which is creamy, but, as someone who dabbles in making ice cream, is coconut-y for no other reason than convenience). At Davvero Gelato, their entire R&D process is centered around being vegan. While this no-expense-spared / ingredient-focused approach presumably does make it impossible to eat here if you have a nut allergy, you can otherwise be guaranteed that the scoop you are getting is deliciously thoughtful. The creative and delightful specials and frequent rotation of flavors gives customers like me (who loves novelty, especially in the realm of food) reason to keep coming back. Davvero sets the standard not just for vegan ice cream, but for ice cream in general. As this week marks their first anniversary in business, I can’t help but be excited to see what...

Read moreI was really looking forward to trying this gelato shop after seeing all the great reviews, but unfortunately, I was very disappointed with my visit on July 11. I had both the cookie dough and pecan flavors, and couldn't get through more than a couple bites of either one. They were incredibly sweet to the point of being unpleasant, and the pecan flavor in particular tasted artificial. The texture was also surprising - it was more like a sorbet than a creamy gelato, which just added to the letdown.
I’m giving an extra star because the staff was genuinely kind and even offered my dog a pup cup, which I really appreciated. I truly hope the quality of the gelato improves in the future, because I was so excited to visit this spot after seeing it pop up on my...
