My parents live just a short walk away from Canyon Grille and have been loyal regulars for years—visiting monthly, if not weekly. As their daughter, I’ve been coming here for a long time too. I’m in my mid-twenties and recently visited with my brother (30), his wife, and my boyfriend. We’ve always had amazing experiences here: the food is consistently excellent, and the views are stunning.
This most recent visit started the same way—with high expectations and excitement. Our server, Bao, was absolutely phenomenal. She was attentive, kind, and handled our table beautifully. Honestly, if it weren’t for her, the experience would’ve felt much worse.
Unfortunately, what left a bad taste in our mouths had nothing to do with the food or our server—it was the interaction we had with one of the managers.
When we arrived, there was a wait (understandably, as it was a busy Saturday), and the hostess encouraged us to grab a drink at the bar while we waited. The bar was packed—shoulder to shoulder—with only one open seat near the server drink station. Since there were four of us, we simply stood behind the chair so we could order a round of drinks. We were careful to step aside anytime a server came through, not wanting to block the way.
While we were waiting, a manager came over to grab a drink for a server and abruptly told us to move because we were “disturbing the servers.” His tone was unnecessarily sharp, and the way he spoke to us felt dismissive and rude. My brother’s wife politely responded, explaining that we thought it was okay since there was a chair placed in front of the station. His response? “Obviously that’s not supposed to be right there,” followed by an eye roll as he walked away.
We fully understand the importance of keeping service areas clear, especially on busy nights. But as loyal, respectful guests who were following the hostess’s direction and doing our best to stay out of the way, we felt the situation could have been handled with much more grace.
Again, Bao made the evening so much better and deserves a shoutout for her incredible service. We’ll likely continue coming here because the food and setting are excellent—but I hope the management team reflects on how tone and approach can greatly impact a...
Read moreThe worst of memory for at least 5-10 years. We got seated, then got water from a bus boy. Then after 30 minutes I had to get up and ask one of the pink shirt mgr type staff (who was gawking at a bus boy set a table) if we might please get a server. 5 more minutes a kid showed up and takes our drink order. Another 15 minutes later he finally shows up with drinks (we've now been seated for more than 45 minutes before we even get a drink - ok, now he's walking off without asking what we want next so I figure grab him, better put in the dinner order now or it may be another 20 minutes. So I say hey guy how about our order? He says just a minute, does some other stuff and then finally takes the order. And we also said please bring some bread!! (the bread NEVER showed by the way) No kidding now, this really happened - we ordered appetizers to be followed by salads, and then main course. wait wait wait then, 30 minutes later we had the entire order arrive at once - they actually dumped the whole thing - one of the 2 appetizers (where's the shrimp, they forgot that) 2 salads and 4 main courses ALL AT ONCE. It hardly fit on the table and the waiter says SORRY I forgot the shrimp, sorry the kitchen put it all up at once and sorry about everything - if all at once then why was the hot mushroom appetizer stone cold?? AND it gets worse - my very expensive Rib-Eye is not only rare (I ordered MR) but it is tough and low-grade, with fat and sinew that can't be cut running right thru the middle. It's also cold - hmmm wonder why? At these prices I expect a lot. If I had not been with dear friends that I did not want to embarrass; I would have refused to pay the check and loved the opportunity to make a very public display of my thoughts with the manager who would have tried to tell me I owed him money for ruining our event. If you want to roll the dice (i.e. other reviews) go for it but I told the managers NEVER...
Read moreWe were staying at the Lakeway Resort close by with some friends of ours and wanted some drinks and appetizers and found this place. Just walking up we noticed we had a lot of unpleasant looks (we were the only minority people there). We walked up to the hostess who gives a buzzer to let us know when to be seated and get drinks from the bar in the mean time. When the buzzer goes off we proceed back to the hostess who says it is not our turn as another couple comes up with the same buzzer and seats them before us although we were there waiting before him. This seemed odd but we thought nothing of it since she says it happens from time to time. Finally we are sat at our table outside and a gentleman enjoying his wine with his wife starts staring at us and starts asking what my husband does for a living. My husband proceeds to tell him and the gentleman tells him oh I thought I know you. He wanted to know where we lived too which by the way is none of his business. The service was decent there but the food was good. The view was nice. The waitress brought the bill and when my husband went to sign it the wind blew it under a persons chair in front of the guy who talked to him earlier. He gave my husband a weird look and asked him what he was doing when he got up to ask the man for the receipt. My husband told him what happened and the man replied “why don’t you get him to pay for it while you’re at it?” My husband replied “that’s not my style” and the man started laughing. One its none of his business where we live or what my husband does for a living. Two-we wouldn’t be there if we knew we couldn’t afford it. We may not be millionaires like most people there but we do have money. That was the most uncomfortable experience of my life. Beware if you are a minority with darker skin color there you may get the...
