China Garden — Restaurant in Lansing

EDIT originally 4 stars, but I've eaten there a few times now and instead of "Solid to good, I can see the potential for great here," which I said originally, I would give it a shrug with, "eh its okay." Because they deliver to my area, and the other two particularly good Chinese restaurants do not, I will continue to order China Garden. Here's why, their veggies were fresh and good and not too many or just chopped or diced onion, celery, and carrots (and peppers) like most places. EDIT, originally I said "that the meat (beef and chicken) is particularly good, like close to Asia's Finest pork, which is stupid good." However, I've had the beef a few times since and will not order it again. Some of it was CHEW, like Fing BUBBLEGUM and it got worse when I reheated it. GROSS!

EDIT: The first "Szechuan beef was very good perhaps the best Chinese food I've had in Lansing -- and yes, I've eaten at just about all of them." However, the second one I had was not so good. Since then I've eaten several entrees and appetizers and most tend to be a bit bland.

Be warned, although their online menu says that two combos come with free Rangoon, apparently they do not. So, I would doubt that the other combo special is still true.

All in all, the place seems okay, they have some consistency issues, there is a cook who is really good or is really good when not tired or busy or something, but otherwise the food tends towards okay, not bad and not what I would say is "good" as in "mmm, that is good," more like, "eh, its fine."

I’ve been ordering food from here for so many years, family included. It’s in my top places of Chinese food because it’s always good to me. I tried ordering during the lunch time today because I always order during dinner. The woman who always works there had a hard time understanding that I wanted 2 lunch combos and 1 regular combo with the egg roll. Me saying lunch combo upset her because it’s not the actual combination platter and was confusing her. I usually talk to the guy and he’s always so pleasant and I’ve talked to the woman a couple times. She has more of the accent and it’s hard to understand her so as she was reading my order I was trying to understand and we were not on the same page with what I was wanting. She hung up the phone and when I called back she’s yelling at me telling me I’m crazy and I’m making the order difficult by saying lunch combo and it’s not a combo. I have never been hung up on, called crazy, and yelled at by anyone at a restaurant. I hung up the phone and was very tempted to handle this in person once I got on my lunch break. But, I will no longer support this establishment because of this. It’s unfortunate because I enjoy the food, but her not being clear on what I wanted doesn’t give her the right to be rude and disrespectful. I’ll give my money to someone else who actually values their customers. I don’t ever do reviews and this situation probably won’t be acknowledged or fixed but this still...

Been sitting on this one for awhile! As we are big fans of Jimy’s on campus. But it’s the closest Chinese to home so we finally gave it a try. And WOW 🙌🏻 have we wasted our time not getting this takeout! Pork lo mein: wonderful! Moist, tender pieces of pork. Perfectly cooked noodle. Moist and very flavorful. Mongolian Beef: when getting this dish you have to be okay with onions. And a lot of them! Thankfully we can handle the onion 😉 so much flavor! Thankful for a good sauce. This tops my list so far! General Tso: this is the best general I’ve ever had! The sauce has reached perfection. Sweet and savory. Chicken was still crunchy in some spots. Others soaked the sauce up perfectly. This dish is done so well here! Salt and Pepper Chicken: was a great addition to our normal order. Allowed for a nice break In all the flavors. Nice crackling pieces of fried chicken. Very good. White Rice: shall I say perfection? Wonderful job. CRAB RANGOONS: HANDSDOWN THE RANGOON IVE BEEN SEARCHING FOR! Crispy beautiful wrapper. Creamy, sweet and savory crab cream cheese center.
