I travel on business all over the country and need my mix of hitting tennis balls and workout. Having a facility like this next to a city center is important to me. The only other comparable facility and instruction in my experience is the Sharon Lester Tennis Center in Atlanta. I have not been to the national tennis center yet. I rank centers on surrounding, helpfulness and friendliness of the staff, quality of the court and instruction and value. Special shout out to instructor John from my home state of Texas. Yep, yep, Conroe is more humid. I cannot imagine doing your 4.0+ advanced clinic in Conroe, Texas. Special shout out to Sue for the Uber advice. This was a great experience. The clinic was a notch above Sharon Lester as was the facility and programs. Friendliness and helpfulness was about the same considering it was a clinic versus a round Robbin. The social atmosphere of the Sharon Lester round robin included a cookout and karaoke and other qualities that make ALTA special. But I've attended clinics at both places and Darling has been the best so far. Plus, they have cardio tennis also instructed by John. Darling misses a little on value. The price of the clinic included an out of town premium and the one way uber fair from city center was $10 higher than Sharon Lester. Advice to other tennis fanatics like me - one word - prehydrate. Thanks Darling staff-I'll be back next time in Vegas. Per your request, Sue, hope these...
Read moreHorribly organized level 4 tennis tournament!! Because of poor coordination, some of the first-round matches didn't even start until 6 p.m. on a Saturday night. It was advertised that consolation matches would start on Saturday, and very few if any started on Saturday and the majority starting on Sunday. They advertised in their tournament instructions and on their website that first-round consolation matches would start on Saturday. We specifically requested this prior to entering the tournament, and they refused to allow this. This is a form of false advertising and needs to be reported to the USTA. The tournament director is quick to take your money, but fails to deliver, then issues a lame apology, they are quick to take your money, but refuse to offer a refund. Rather than be upfront and honest about dates, timing and schedules for the matches, they provide false hope and false reassurance. Their refusal to issue a refund should also be investigated, particularly for false advertising. Be very cautious for all future advertisements on tennis tournamentd, specifically regarding court scheduling, and expect significant delays at any...
Read moreAfter running around town trying to get on the public courts, we decided to try our luck at the Darling Tennis Center..and all was well.
Darling service: We were able to get on a court from 8:30 to 10:30 AM after rolling in at 8:20 AM. $5 per hour per player and we were all good with that. Respect to the gentleman at the front who got us on immediately.
Darling Tennis Center: The courts are well maintained and spaced well from each other. There's shaded seating and I appreciate the wind screens on the fences to keep the wind down. The stadium court is gorgeous and I've been lucky to see some pros play here back in the early 2000s. The Men's pro had the Tennis Channel Open and the Women's pro had the Party Rock Open. There isn't a bad seat on the stadium court and you can really appreciate the skills from the intimacy of the stadium court setup.
Overall, we appreciated the awesome walk on service and I'm sure we'll be back either as spectators or hackers on the court. hehe.....
