I was really looking forward to trying Vintage Home Kitchen. I decided to go on Friday 5/31 with my coworker. Before arriving, I studied their menu off of their website and was looking forward to my favorite food items like turkey and stuffing, spaghetti, and lasagna. When we arrived, I looked around the hot bar and did not see those things. I asked if I needed to place an order for those items to be made and the response was that the spaghetti and lasagna does not sell so they no longer make them. Okay. I then asked about the turkey and stuffing because it too is listed on the website and it is listed as a Friday, Saturday, and Sunday Special. I cannot remember what she said, but that they did not have it that day. So 0/3 for what I was looking forward to. I get it. Those are probably one off items that don't sell. Things do change and updates need to be made due to business, but they should at the very minimum update the website if they are completely taking something off the menu - Because I of course am that one person who was craving those items and wanted "the things that don't sell". The server kept hyping up the meatloaf, and to be honest, I was hesitant due to prior reviews. It was okay. It was not the worst meatloaf I have ever had, but I would not get it again. I ate probably half the slice. I understand the restaurant is new and has some kinks to work out, but based off of that experience alone - I do not plan on returning. Our server was Amy and she was nice, so that is at least something positive from the whole experience. Other reviews mention the prices being high since the food is A La Carte. I am used to these type of places because I frequent Longstreet Cafe in Hall County and they keep a line out the door. Everything costs more now a days, so to me, it was "normal". It was like $45 (after tip) for 2 drinks, 2 side salads, 2 main entrees and side. One thing I splurge on is food. If it is good, I have no problem paying for it. If you read this entire review, thank you. I am hoping it helps. It is a tough market right now and Mom and Pop restaurants are struggling. With some work, this place has potential and I wish the business...
Read moreThis is a new restaurant we happened upon this weekend. We were excited to try a meat and three type of place.
We enjoyed the atmosphere and servers were nice and accommodating. Some of the food was good. The eggs though tasted bland, many of the items on the bar were dry and old. So old that I didn’t pick it up but didn’t want to be a bother to ask them to make more since breakfast was ending.
The buffet-style serving is a-la-carte. Meaning, each item you pick up, you pay for. Don’t get the idea you can do an all-you-can-eat buffet here. If/when you walk back up to the bar, your server will ask to see what you got so they can add it to your tab. And these items ain’t cheap, folks!! We paid $30 for two to eat for breakfast!!
Your server…let me just share what these servers do.
They will answer questions, they will smile, they will provide you with drinks, and they will call back to the kitchen when food is running low on the bar. That’s it.
However, when it comes time to pay, they come over with their portable strapped-to-their-shoulder paying machine. They will hand it to you and ask for a tip. Yes, they expect to be tipped 18,20 percent for bringing you a drink.
If you are ok with that, that’s for you. Great. But we could not justify a 20% tip on our entire bill (including tax) just for bringing us a drink.
We got our own food, silverware, plate, napkins, and also got our own condiments and desserts. Yet they want a 20% tip on your entire bill.
That was the deal breaker for us and we...
Read moreToday, I visited a restaurant that I had heard good things about but have never tried before. Vintage Home Kitchen, located at 555 Progress Center Avenue in Lawrenceville, Ga 30043. Located just off Hwy 316 at High Hope Rd. This place is a hidden jewel! Let me preface my remarks by saying that I am not a fan of buffets, because most of them are dirty and the food, while plentiful, is usually not very good. Now, about Vintage Home Kitchen. I arrived to find plenty of parking. I was greeted by a smiling and friendly person who walked me to the buffet. She explained that on Saturdays and Sundays, they offer a brunch from 10-2 at $13.99 per adult. The place is spacious, clean and had nice music playing. The real surprise was just how delicious, fresh tasting, and well presented the food is. Fried chicken, meatloaf, eggs, bacon sausage, grits, biscuits, gravy, salads, fruit, etc. Everything and more that you could want. My biscuit was prepared perfectly; a large cat-head biscuit, crispy golden brown on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside. For my money, it is the best biscuit in Gwinnett County. This place offers a tremendous value for your money. The food is delicious and fresh, and the people who work there are friendly and accommodating. I...
